I think it's that it seems a lot of cases of enforcement seem to happen to bands that would never in a million years make a profit off of the songs they cover. Everyone plays cover songs when they're getting started, so it seems like one of those "little guy VS. The Man" sort of deals...
Here's one for ASCAP: So if I cover All Along the Watchtower, Hendrix style, who gets paid? Bobby D or the Hendrix estate? Did JH pay BD royalties when he covered that song? Did Zeppelin pay any of the bands they covered (and from whom they profited greatly)?
What if your cover song is...
I hear nothing out of tune between my bass player and I. I can tell the difference between my non BFTS guitars and my Suhr, but I've never had any issue with it sounding out of tune in a band context. Odds are, nobody in the audience will tell the difference.
My problem is that the recordings of this cab always come out too compressed, no matter how I set the gain level. It currently has a pair of Guytron Bigtone 55's, which are British voiced (sort of the genius bastard child between a V30, G12H30 and Greenback). Amp is the Guytron GT100, which...
Not to stir up the pot any, but I think you're talking all New Testament stuff. There's a healthy dose of folks out there who are all about the Old Testament fire and brimstone, vengeful intolerant god BS. I personally don't jive with any of that; I just think some people want (or expect) life...
Me too. Don't think I'd be able to pull the trigger for at least six months, and what I want would likely be $1500 US... and even then I would probably take it to my local luthier to give it SS frets. And, to be honest, I'm not really sure what I want :D These are the things holding me back...
Karera POS SS 1x10 (I can't believe it even made sound, it was noxious) -> gone
Peavey Ultra 212 -> sold to my other guitar player years ago
Marshall DSL40 -> sold to Music Go Round
Rivera M100 -> traded in for El Diablo
Genz Benz El Diablo 100 -> traded in for Guytron
Guytron GT100 -> Still...
I highly doubt it was Plek'd. There are only a few builders in the US even who have a Plek machine (Suhr, G&L come to mind immediately, a couple other luthiers as well).
It's ironic, but it's also asking for a lawsuit if the patent hasn't expired. He has so many patents, I'm surprised he hasn't gone all lawyer on anyone who has remotely copied a design.
Then again, all you have to do is change a resistor value and you can claim it's your own :)
I'm just glad...
All I can say is I can't wait until this sucker is broken in. My band is covering Heartbreaker this Tuesday; and I started doing the crazy JP style solo in the middle of the song and holy shit does the midrange sound good out of these speakers!
That's a lot of the reason I play the Guytron; it's not all compressed pre-amp distortion since the EL84s are slaved into an EL34 power section. Single coils sound frightening through this amp; clean to scream with just the pick attack :) Don't even get my started on the #4 position on my Suhr...
Got my pair of Guytron Bigtone 55 speakers in yesterday to replace the Swamp Thangs in my BuzzBomb. Graydon Stuckey described them to me as Vintage 30s without the annoying upper midrange, and a very sparkly top end, so I thought I'd give 'em a whirl.
So far I like them a lot, even though...
So I was looking for info on my Guytron (looking for the bias resistor) when I noticed that, low and behold, the bloody thing has a full schematic at the US Patent Office website! How about that? I knew that a lot of amp designs were patented, but I didn't realize that included a full...
I just HAVE to ask...
WHAT'S IT SOUND LIKE WITH NO FX??!!!!1111ONE11!1!
j/k dude, great vid as always :D  That pedal sounds stellar through the clean channel, great low-mid thing going on!
