I have the FSM and Hydra on a Triple. Comparing them, they are definitely family members. The Hydra has more "hair" and a bit more girth to it. Hydra is also quicker to go into gain. It can get more saturated, although FSM can get close at its higher gain settings. FSM does round off a bit...
Congratulations! I picked up one of these guitars a few months back and it's been great. Pickups aren't bad but I'm going to swap mine too. I just ordered pots and a cap/resistors as well and will replace all the electronics in the cavity. I did the same to another guitar and it was worth the...
I still have faith in digital, but the tone here sounds awful to me. Maybe it's just the way they are dialing it in? I heard the same kind of problem on their Colbert performance. Sounds like chunky aliased distortion garbage rings out after each note attack.
I just picked up one of these. I tried it out at a GC. I was actually hoping to find one of the high end clearance PRSs, but this Custom 24 S2 caught my eye. I hadn't heard of the S2 line before so at first I thought I was playing a $2K+ Custom 24 that was marked down. :D
Fit and finish are...
Some of my favorite albums are from the 90s. But for the most part you need to look beyond what got radio play. These are some to look at: Fear Factory (Demanufacture), Sepultura, Kyuss, AFI (Black Sails, Art of Drowning), Suicidal Tendencies, Machine Head, Unbroken (Ritual), Corrosion of...
Add Overloud TH2 to the list. There's a Super Lead preset that sounds similar to a channel on one of my tube amps. I compared both the real amp and TH2 into the same cab sim. TH2 sounded _really_ good and was pretty competitive to a real amp to my ears. For that, and for high gain sounds, it's...
Regarding where to get them, someone posted on another thread that Mesa sells their versions of the V30s on their website. These look to be the links needed:
Mesa V30 16 Ohm: http://mesa.stores.yahoo.net/blacshadpase2.html
Mesa V30 8 Ohm: http://mesa.stores.yahoo.net/blacshadpase1.html
Go get...
Peters FSM. :) It's very articulate and handles mid gain up through high gain well. Roll the volume knob back and the bottom end rounds out, mid gets chunky, top stays defined. Love it.
I haven't owned this amp but how about checking and adjusting the bias? I read that these come biased on the cold side from the factory. If it has room to go higher that will warm it up.
Also haven't tried that 1x12 but from past experience going from a 1x12 to even a 2x12 was a pretty big...
