Yeah, those are the Mercury Components trannies.

A nifty comparison of 4 PTs. I've listened to these a lot. My amp reminds of the tone of the MMs, which is darker with more an emphasis on the lower mids. It doesn't seem to have the crunchiness of the others. The Mercury Component (classic tone) is better, but I don't know, I think I like the Heyboers the best. That said, the Classic Tones are considerable less expensive (or they were).

Very cool comparison

What amp do you own ??

Well, it's a ever popular Scarecrow amp.

I got it off CL for cheap. It's a '68 1959 clone from a company in Baltimore. MM trannies and chokes, mallory 150 caps, hand wired, and JJ power caps. I picked it up for $800, figuring I was going to use it as a test bed for learning anyways, how could I go wrong?

When I got it somebody had modded it to a 2203, so I converted it all back to 1959 spec. I put some SOZO coupling caps in as well, put a master volume in (prePI), and a metro loop. It's a pretty nice sounding amp really, but it just has that extra low/low mid, darkish thing going on compared to other plexis. Very similar to the way that MM clip sounds in the above comparison. So, that's really the next thing I want to try out.

The Classic Tone sounds inbetween the MM and Heyboer. I think the Heyboer has the most "plexi" tone, but the CT isn't bad at all. The CT is also $55 and made in the USA. The Heyboers are about twice that. Metro has their won spec OT that is Heyboer built. I'm not sure how much it is or what the difference is.
