Smooth top, tight bottom. Highs are shaved off a bit too much for me and I hear that in your clips as well. Lower frequencies are a little too pronounced and thick for me. I rocked it for almost a year and put a JB with alnico II in it's place and have not looked back.

ps- you still need an overdrive pedal ;)

I love the AT-1 in my R8, wasn't a fan of it in my Charvel. Depends on the guitar I guess.

I've got an AT-1 in the bridge with a PAF36th in the neck in my Lifeson Les Paul Axcess. Sounds fabulous in every way!

same here until i UN-aired it, then it really came to life!
sounds exactly like the EBMM evh/axis bridge pu i always loved!
Highs are more pronounced and the output comes up a touch.
Not a fan of the airbucker's ,They all seem to have too smooth of a treble for me, i like the SCREAM!

I love the JB SH-4, just one of those prefect pickups for what I like to play most. (classic rock)
But I just don't want to put it in all my guitars, I like a little variety and flavour in my instruments.

I will let you know when I find the right OD pedal, still lookin' around.
Mike, I am using a old JB from 1978 wound by seymour himself and i love that friggin pu!
The newer production ones are great but they dont have the body and punch of the old ones from the late 70's
you can get this version it is called the JB antiquity. it uses a roughcast A5 that is aged and the newer prod ones are polished A5 full strength magnets
here check it out.

The antiquity is the best of the bunch from the clips. But again, on the cheap, JB2! Aldrich comes in second.

Agreed, the antiquity has the edge over the others.

Must try one out for myself, aged zebra would be my choice.

Yeah it sounds the same as the original one i have from 1978 which is really giving credit to seymour for being able to pull that off.
He did a awesome job and recapturing the look, tone of these.
the 35th is also great, is is my second choice.

I have no idea what you mean - how do you "un-air" it?

Fair price on the antiquity models too.. big time have the RATT mojo when listening to that demo they released of the various JB going through their paces.

You fill the spaces that dimarzio uses in the air buckers(they removed the screw pole retainer bar and used slim taper stud poles).
If you have not worked on dimarzio's before i dont recomend f**kin with it.
Basically you have to exchange the stud poles from a regular dimarzio and add a metal screw pole retainer bar to the aired pu.
OR you can use anything conductive and fill in the gaps between the poles and the magnets edge.

Yeah that sounds pretty intense, not something I'd want to get into.
I'd probably ruin the pu in my first attempt. :)
Nah once you see how dimarzio does the ari bucker tech it is not that hard
But dimarzio's use those really frail wires and some guys mess up a connection to one of the coils.
Besides if you like the AT-1 stock there is no reason to un air it.
it just adds some highs and output to the same tone.
you use a 1 meg pot so i doubt it would make that much a difference for you.
A guy who uses 500K would hear the difference no doubt.

I have an AT-1 in the bridge with a 36th in the neck of a 2002 LP Classic with 500k CTS pots and it just has too much mids for me. I think I am going to put a Super-D in the bridge and call it a day. That seems to be my sweet spot for Dimarzios in an LP.

Just bought my second AT-1 last week. I put one in my Bumblebee last year and always loved it. I finally got around to grabbing another one to put in my Frankenstrat. No pedal needed at all. Love them.
