Geoff Tate's Operation Mindcrime III

Meh. It sounds like just what it is, a cover band trying to sound like Queensryche.

The funniest thing is Tate revisiting this stuff after his rants about how much he hates rock / metal and all this material. I guess not getting paid overrode that.

The whole DeGarmo thing is overblown as well, the last couple albums with him weren't very good and Tribe certainly wasn't a resurrection when he came back for that. His solo stuff wasn't very good either.

I say this as someone who absolutely loves the first few albums and who stuck with them through the abomination that was Mindcrime II. The newer stuff, while different, is actually good

I like this version as well. Todd can sound a lot like Ray Alder from Fates Warning at times with those killer screams!

a great producer and collaborative veteran arranger would have been worth the coin.

like the sonics production-wise but the material needs refinement.
Sometimes the advice of a great producer can make something ok into something great. Totally agree. I felt this latest song was disjointed , it didn't flow and was choppy in the breakdowns. A good producer would have smoothed the rough out of the song.

It was kind of like when VH told Ted Templeman and Don Landee to F off. The music did change. Sometimes musical genius needs to be focused.
