I would love a Marshall Major.. Finding one is so hard!

Yeah, I don't think a lot people really realize just how rare they are and what small amount were ever built.

Finding one in stock condition is almost impossible.

Your Major sounds freaking killer! I'm modding my first amp (1959SLP) and started a thread on here about it tonight. I'm thinking about trying some version of the cascade one wire mod, but I'm going to work on revoicing the normal channel first and dumping a good portion of that gain to ground before I try cascading again. I tried it with the normal channel voiced as it normally is and even after switching the .022uF and .0022uF caps I didn't like the result in my amp. There is just TOO MUCH freaking gain available cascading it without dumping some off before the second half of V1. I'm going to try something a little different once I pick up some more caps. This has been a great learning experience and I'm loving it so far.

Thank you kindly Sir.

Have you tried using a 1meg resistor in series with the one wire mod??
This will bring down the gain levels a bit.
What I"ll sometimes do is solder a 1meg to the center lug of vol 2 and then attach the wire to that.
The other end of the wire I attach to where the two input resistors join for channel 1.

In this video I made checkout the 0:36 mark of the clip to maybe get a better understanding of what I'm talking about. :)

Thank you! Yes, I've tried the 1M resistor in series in the wire. I just finished voicing both treble and normal channel the same and I'm going to try the 1 wire again with the 1M resistor in series, and also without it and use a lower value resistor from either the pot to ground, or where they junction to ground.

I'm curious, do you believe that using the 1M in series in the 1 wire can change either feel or tone? Could it cause any small amount of lag in response, etc?

Late to the party.

Just wanted to say congrats man!! Seems a whoooooooooooole mess of people out there are after that special ever-so-sought-after brown sound EVH Marshallesque tone. Well man - you fkn NAILED it with this amp and its mods  :salute:

Note for those seeking that special ever-so-sought-after brown sound EVH Marshallesque tone, get a f*cking Marshall for starters   :2thumbsup:

Bloody well done Braddah!! Sick.

I'm not sure what you're trying to ask me??
The best thing to do is try it and see if you like it. :)

Never too late my friend.

Thank you for commenting, I appreciate the kind words.

Yeah, I think if you're after this type of sound a Marshall Plexi circuit is a good place to start. :)

Here are the gut shots of my 68 Plexi. :)

The first thing that jumps out at me is your first stage couplers, it should be .022uF/.0022uF as explained in my video.
I can see a lot of problems with this circuit that would cause a flubby low-end.
This is a schematic I made for Dario, line-up your circuit exactly like this and I'll be good to go.
Look at everything very closely and make all the proper changes to your circuit.

Hi Guys,

I know this is an old thread but it has some links in it that I'd like to view that aren't working, so I don't want to start a new one. I'm not sure if Michael is around lately (seems like he may have removed some posts so I'm not sure if he's upset about something and has taken a break from forums) so I'm posting at the end of this thread instead of PM'ing him. I've been fighting with my One Wire Mod in my Metroamp Plexi. I had so much squeal that I actually added another preamp tube and a turret board, after shielded wire didn't fix it with the initial OWM layout/wiring scheme.

I'm going for the exact same sound as Dario's but I have way too much gain. Did anybody download and save the "Dario" schematic that Michael posted? It's not available anymore. I might try to locate him if I can't figure this out so I can get that tone, I'm in Toronto and I think he's not too far away from me. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas or can help.

Thanks!

His facebook page is still up, Audette amp mods in Collingwood

Try swapping the wires to the output tube plates. Good chance it's that.

Michael posts here almost on a daily basis :dunno:

All you have to do is find a post of his (just a few posts up) and click on Profile. You can then not only see the last day he was here as logged in you can PM him as well.
