That's a definite difference in wiring, but the other two are identical. By the way, do you prefer the switch on or off?

I prefer different settings depending on the amp I use and the tone I'm after.

I am definitely liking this thread. Bookmarked for reference.

Been head down and ass up in these cabinets the last couple weeks and it is amazing the amount of tweaks one can get from mixing it up, different cabs, and wiring. Some amps sound much different @ 16 ohm vs. 8 ohm load. Or, running a 16 ohm load at 8 ohm. Stepping a couple 8 ohm cabs down to 4 ohms makes a huge difference that I don't like worth shit. Why is that?

Oh, V=I*R

And, size does matter

These oversized cabs to me sound good with V30's and a mix of V30/K100. I really can't get the Mesa or Mills to sound near as good as the typical Marshall 68. If you really want to feel some difference too, this Naked cab seems to really resonate at any frequency and dammit, it does sound better (take a bow Jim and Dave). But, can't see dragging it around. Hate to put it in a road case and not let it do what it was designed to do.

There's nothing like a cab full of scum. The M/H mix is good in any smaller cab. The Marsha, Naked, Marshall, all sound good in it.

There's just not enough time to tweak it all. Fuck, it just never ends. Like wiping your ass on a a wagon wheel.......

Think I will go back to V30's and Bogner straights. Tough to beat.

Ah boy, it never stops...like wiping your ass on a wagon wheel...Ok, you're officially/publicly ripped off for that one by me. Just letting you know in advance.

Gas...please...as soon as my demo room is finished (crossing my fingers for this week!) I'll post some pics and you can all feel better...much better...including Jon Ou, Steve K, pschodave, etc.

I think the kicker will be the tall slant/tall bottom stack. I'll have exactly four inches of clearance under my ceiling in the demo room when that gets here.

As far as original cabs are concerned...here's a 70 slant/69straight (replaced cloth as they were painted black)

They had wiring like this 72 checkerboard I rewired (after I got it, since the jack was toast) after I bought it from Bob Reinhardt, which is the same as this (except the wiring starts at the top instead of the bottom). I could dig up lots of examples of this, but I'm tired of searching all my subdirectories on my sites!

Yes.......the Scumback/Beano Stimulus Package

OK, you can have the slogan. Might cost you a discounted empty cab......

LOL, then I'd owe lots of people discounted empty cabs, I've stolen lots of great lines.

I have a few amps I like the sound of when run at 4 ohm much better.... but most of them I like 16 or 8 ohm best. It is a huge difference on some amps.

One change I do make to the top schematic is with an X pattern speaker spread, I X the parallel wires and parallel between like speakers instead of different speakers. Not too sure if it makes a difference, but I do it that way.

Steve
I tried this, when rewiring an X-pattern cab from stereo-optional to straight-up mono, and it did sound better having the like speakers in series with themselves, and then the pairs paralleled. The other way, it sounded a little harsh. (Veteran 30s + G12H30s)

Validated.....thanks jet. I am sure electrically, there is a logical explanation.
