Think about what the rating is first, not tin foil hat thinking. The ampacity for awg#18 for continuous load is 5.6A@80% still far above what a 100w amp requires. Keep in mind this is the minimum size I've seen used which still exceeds the 2.5A for a 100w amp by more than double. Anything being stated here is imaginary losses that are not proven.

Some players sense a valuable difference with bigger wire.

Some players that don't have a tendency to chastise the ones that do, asserting that they are poorly informed or simply stupid, based on logic and reason.

For example, many great players don't know what kind of cabling is in their cabs, let alone speakers in many cases, or even the kinds pickups in their guitars.

Others do, and some are extreme cases like Eric Johnson.

It is appropriate to give him shit for being sensitive to things most do not value? Or tell Reinhold Bogner his use of Marshall Soundrunner 10 gauge is silly and overkill?

Probably not.

I suggested to Randall Smith that he look into series/parallel wiring on the Mesa OS cabs, out of reverence for his creation's impact on my life and how it could be improved, and he stated that he was going to talk to Gibson about it. Not out of logic/reason, but out of love. Pure and simple!

Technology, which is built with logic and reason, serves the spirit of art, which comes from intuition.

Intuition > Logic/Reason

Intuition only works when the logic/reason mind gets quiet. You have to listen for it.

What is "Silly," "Overkill," and perhaps logically and reasonably wrong or improper may have unseen advantages.

It doesn't matter if you agree or disagree, what matters is the joy of experiencing that leads to higher expressions of spirited playing.

That is the fucking point!

I appreciate your commentary, genuinely.

But electronics are not song-writing. I appreciate that most laymen have contributed significantly, you could even say the majority of guitar amp progression was done by lay-people. But you can't escape physics, and that has an implication on what is possible.

The reason I care at all is because I see people throw good money after this stuff, and while that is their right, I want to present the case as thoroughly as possible to convince them that it is (mostly) bologna. After that, people can do as they wish.

I agree that taking advantage of lay people to sell snake oil sucks as well. The Hi-Fi community is rife with such charlatanism.

The mods I suggest cost less than $50 bucks. I'm all about results AND efficiency.
