Behold the Arctopus is actually a kick ass band. That video doesn't do them justice, esp. without a drummer.
Damn that kinda backfired on me.  Oh well, the Bugera guy is still sort of funny. Hey man, glad you're getting some serious responses out of all this.

+1. Have you heard the Blotted Science record that their drummer played on? Friggin' awesome.

Calm down big boy! :poke:

I never said I could tell so I don't need to put anything where my keyboard is. :D In fact, I said that I could care less if couldn't tell. Refer to paragraph 4 in my previous post.

I am not trying to argue and I would rather not.
I'm not arguing, I'm discussing. The essence of discussion is conflict, else no discussion. :)

Anyway, here is what you said:

"I don't care if I can tell if a guitar amp has been reamped or not, and I don't care how many amps are reamped in the studio these days. I can not stand most modern production (especially metal) these days anyway. It sounds completely fake, and I guess with a completely triggered drumset or computerized drum program and all reamped guitars it kind of is. "

What does modern production have to do with it? I don't get it. My clips sound like old VH production for the record (the ones I'd post for this purpose anyway) and while you may not like that either you can't deny that if you can't tell the difference, reamping isn't any less valid a technique for getting the tone you want. If you can't tell which clips were reamped and which weren't and the guitars basically sound the same, what does it matter whether you played it just the guitar and amp or DI'd AND played through the same amp and THEN reamped. How is it "fake" if I record through my amp AND DI at the same time and then decide later I'd like a bit more gain on the amp, so I reamp EXACTLY what I played through the SAME amp with a bit more gain. What is fake about that? Whatever I played is still coming through. I can match my live guitar with a reamped signal basically exactly with the tools I have.

This whole argument just seems silly to me. If you could tell the difference between a reamped clip and a live played clip, I'd understand, but if you can't your argument is nonsense. Now I understand if you say, "I just prefer to play it through my amp and record that way.", that's cool - it's your recording STYLE preference. But to say the end result is going to be better not reamping vs. reamping when you admit you wouldn't be able to tell the difference... well... that's ummmm...

Steve

I see your point. Not that I am going to go reamp everything now, but I definitely get what you are talking about.

Thanks for considering my point of view, sir! Pleasure discussing this with you...

Why do you hate reamping?

Just my 2 cents...

If I remember correctly they did not really do re-amping till the mid 90's and I never heard a great sounding track from any album that had the guitars "re-amped" that I am aware of.

Nothing beats a great live recorded guitar sound never saw what all the re-amping hype was about but I am open to it.

Well, except when (like me) you can't crank it loud enough to get a decent tone at home, and you don't have enough money to do a zillion takes in the studio to get both the playing and the tone right... Re-amping might actually be even more important to people with a small budget than big bands who can buy all the studio time they want. This is why I like the re-amping concept.

Every soundclip on the net gets criticized
one way or another no matter how good or bad it is.
Soundclips can't tell you how you're going to sound
or feel, you have to play the amplifier to get "it".
Just record your shit the way that makes you happy,
and have a nice day.

I've had a major act producer tell me he loved my video because he could hear what he needed to hear in the tone. I've had many people tell me they preferred my stripped down clips to over produced clips. I've also had many people tell me I need better clips.
Bottom line, there's a seat for every ass. Everyone likes something different. I find most people aren't listening to the amp when they listen to clips, they are basing their opinions on the playing and the recording, not the amps tone. Play a killer song on a shit amp and people think it sounds great.
