You are correct. Not with normal electronics solder. Plumber's solder. I use the dremmel moto tool to scuff up the back so it will stick. You have to go with a hotter setting and a bigger tip too. 750 degrees with the bigger flat head tip. Cheapo soldering iron won't work for this. The higher end Weller like George uses, or a Hakko Future Product that I use will do the trick.
Then clean up with acetone after.
