I always thought that they recorded with their NMVs, and toured with the MV Marshalls starting in 77-78. But this came from a friend who knew a roadie....so who knows if true.

Malcolm was the driving force behind it all
no credit ever given
B.S. Malcolm has long been considered one the best of all time rhythm players in rock. He was well known as the chief of the band. He’s had plenty of credit, just no limelight..which he didn’t want.

Every time I see them, I can't get over how tiny they all are lol.

One of the greatest rock bands of all time.

I believe the average height of the band (original & more classic line ups) ranged from 5'4" to 5'6" depending on who was drumming (Rudd/Wright/Slade) and singing (Bonn/Brian) :)

Angus & Malcolm Young of AC/DC – 5 Foot 2 & 5 Foot 3 Inches Tall

They did use 800s a minute . Get this : razors edge and ACDC Live is all Mesa Boogie rack units . After that they went back to nmv Marshall’s but wizard got thrown in the mix from 95 -2012 . Went all super leads after that but a master volume added to all of them for extra gain

Rick started teching for their tours in the late 80s I think. The earliest Wizards are from the early 90s, that I've seen. Angus/Malcom were the first test drivers of his amps.

Still my favorite ACDC song.. looks like it came from the same place/time as the OP

A master volume isn’t going to add gain to a NMV. It’s not a gain stage. The only way they juiced them was from Angus’s wireless unit which had the ability to raise the input level to the amp.

Makes sense because they stopped the boogies in 92 . When they made big gun in 93 Rick Rubin was like YOU must go back to your roots and Marshalls

Trace says they added a master volume and gain stage to the super leads . He does say to add gain

Also each super lead is heavily modded and essentially are all 2203 . Seems he likes the super lead old classic look

Saw them at the Cow Palace here in SF on that tour , October `83 . Fantastic high energy show as always with AC/DC

You originally said adding a Master for more gain, without mentioning “and adding a gain stage”. A master volume is not adding a gain stage. They are two different things.
