Alternative to Suhr Badger around 30-40 watts

This might not even be a viable question. If not, please don't judge me. I really like the sound of the Suhr Badger's gain. But, I don't want to spent thousands upon thousands for that amp. It's just too much money, and I'd be afraid I'd have bad luck and make it go boom (or something bad anyway).

Do you guys have any viable suggestions for an amp with a similar sound and great, open cleans for less money and around the same wattage?

What do they usually run used? Aren't those heads huge?
