The GL2T (small paddle shaped ones) are closer to $4000 (which I'm NOT paying). I can get a GM body version for around $2400).
Yeah the Gls' are expensive, carbon composite neck and body, the GM s' have a composite neck and Maple body I think. If you like active EMGs' i suppose you'd like them. If you like a natural woody tone don't do it, you'll be dissapointed. Listen to the guitar tone on Cindy Lauper stuff, thats the kind of tone you'll be getting.

I've never played EMGs. I'm not opposed to something 'different.' Listen to Skid Row's "I Remember You," or anything off White Lion's "Big Game" record, that's all Steinberger guitar, recorded & produced by Michael Wagener. Actually, that whole Skid Row record is loaded with Steinberger tone.

Like I mentioned, this won't be my only guitar, so 'woody' tone isn't all that important to me, as I can get that in spades with several of my other guitars. I'm looking at this as more of a different flavor for recording and stuff.

Yep, the GMs have the carbon composite neck also.
