can you dedicated slo guys post some demos off YT that you think does the amp justice?

i’m not a slo guy at all and just want to hear what you’re hearing.

Even having owned one, I'd also be interested in hearing something that other people think is the sound that draws them in. All the things that I was at one point was told were SLO, wound up being something else.

I guess you'd have to try one for yourself to get a proper opinion. Comparing two grand pianos on youtube would not be a good measuring tool either.
i have played through the head a few times.
i preferred the synergy module’s ability to dial in that general sound at any volume. but i’m just wondering if there is a clear cut demo of the head that defines what the current slo fan base are chasing with the amp.

a cool demo:

harder tones:

and i was always lead to believe this is the slo lead tone:

This is 100% the issue. There is not a good definitive reference of actual recorded album tones where the guitars were exclusively the Soldano SLO.

There are so many songs I thought were Soldano and formed some sort of unofficial opinion, but turned out to be quasi-debunked. Some of those debunked songs are official, like John Suhr actually stating EVH played a CAE 3+ preamp on The Dream is Over from Carnal Knowledge album.

Others could be straight up trolling or conjecture, like being told Ratt’s Nobody Rides for Free was a Cameron modded Marshall.

We should all create the definite reference for SLO only verified tones.

FWIW, played the SLO a few times and always loved it.

I don't want to sound like Gary Moore I want more of the xyz hungry album tone. Granted that is a morin preamp through a jmp but the slo 100 gets me in a similar spot while also doing crunch and cleans well. Its not the best at those but I like the character it brings and there is a certain mid-vocal thing it does when you start soloing on the 7th fret while playing leads and above that I like.

I haven't owned one, only tried it several times but I did try it next to a be100, 2203x, and a small box and it won out. Im open to changing my mind if I like something better but you can spend 4k on a multi-channel / multi-switch ultra customizable amp and only use 1 or 2 tones. So I think that in each setting it brings good tones with simplicity and it cuts well.

So far its vocal solo thing is unmatched from my experience with the trade off being a rounder low end.

Am I crazy?

I’ve wanted an SLO since forever, and now that I’m in a position to get one, I find myself shrugging my shoulders at it, kind of unsure.

Am I crazy for this logic?
Not crazy, just the tincture of time tamping down the laser-focused GAS. And maybe a dash of maturity and rationale (blasphemous words here on RT, I know).

FWIW, there was a good 10 years I was blasting through every high end amp my heart (ears? hands??) so desired (SLOs included). I thought on many occasions "aw baby THIS is the one!!" only to become underwhelmed with it not that long after. As many of you who know me from the years gone by, I kinda went full circle and the amps I was frothing for at the very beginning, I ended up with (either keeping, or re-purchasing) as my lifers. Any regrets on the ones I sold? Nope. Although I do recall buying and selling a TwinJet Purple mod 3 times over the course of several years (and every time I got it back, I realized the same thing I'd realized previously - amazing amp - but just not 100% for me...although if there ever was another I'd likely...😂 SHUT UP, MO!!)

Anyway - tastes change, rationale changes, GAS alters and morphs. It's all part of the gig. But one thing I am glad about is I spend a hella lot more time playing (when I'm not surfing around the globe) than gassing for amps and spending hours on forums (no offence, miss you guys - don't think I've forgotten about this place YEW!!) knowing what I have now is what I've wanted all along, and will continue to want in the future

Rock whatcha got 🤘
Peace n Powerchords
