HAS SICK TONE!?!?!?! To me, their tone just gets better and better every album. Evisceration Plague tone is just sick, and their live tones is HEAVY!!

Maybe it's just my GAS for a Recto lately, but it REALLY wants to make me buy a 2 channel Triple recto and boost it....Will my Diezel Herbert thats on the way get me there? I sure hope so :D :D Anyways, carry on!!!

I found the exact opposite actually :P

After jack left the tone is a lot less musical and has a "grainy" character to it. Bloodthirst/wretched spawn was sort of their apex imo, tonewise.

Their live show is intense, but they've sounded like shit the last 5 times I saw them. Just too much volume and bottom end :/

I like their tone. It's not a typical Recto sound to me. Really cool though.

I dig the tone on bloodthirst, don't get me wrong. I just really like the Evisceration Plague I guess.

I guess we should take a Poll.....Best guitar tone on a Death Metal album? What are your guys picks? I am sure this will be highly subjective, because tone is so subjective, as well as Death metal. GO! :D :D

my favorite death metal tone ever, period, hands down is the Hateplow selftitled ep. Huge chunk, big riffs and just in your face. I liked the tone Six Feet Under had too although it's just basic Marshall. I saw them live and it was the same.

I think their tone is perfect for what they do.......see metalzone does serve a purpose other than sounding like an ass cannon.they sound awsome live too

I thought their tone was sick live as well. Although, the metalzone IS used as a clean boost it seems, and it is Keeley modded I believe as well...so that does help :D

I dig the tones on newer albums, but on stage it sounds awful.

Nile for best album tone, some kind of modded marshall there, sounds like a raging bull.

Suffocation kicks ass live, but their albums never capture the magic.

I'm a huge fan of the Dismember sound, if we're putting in our picks.

Yes, I'd like to hear everyones picks as well....Yea Nile has GOTTA be up there too, sound is just huge. I mean, its pretty scooped, and has alot of high end, but kills for what it is.

bloodthirst!
that's the sound right there.

EMG Equipped Guitars going into Rectos boosted with a Metal Zone.
straight up EVIL

Last Nile album was recorded with stock DSLs according to Guitar World. :dunno:

Dying Fetus had the best live tone I have heard from a death metal band in a long time. The VH140C was crushing!

is it keeley modded?I thought they were boosting with stock pedals...

Yeah they have keeley modded ones now, blue light special.

+1 on fetus' live show, really thick sound for just a 3 piece

As for the newest Nile album being a stock DSL.. I suppose its possible with all the studio magic these days..

So uh....Whose got Herbert death metal clips? :D :D :D

STOCK DSL? FML....That just makes me wonder why we spend all this money on gear....not sure I believe that.

i like the CC tone on THE BLEEDING the best.never seen them live.

i seen NILE live on the tour from the "catacombs "cd.they were very impressive.tone was vey good.

Deicide tone was awful when i seen them on the "once upon the cross" tour.

best DM live tone i have heard was the now long since broken up....BROKEN HOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any of you youngsters into DM need to hear this band, were awesome.

"grotesque blessings" was their last cd.

"Swamped in gore" their first.

my fav is "repulsive conception"

I always imagined Karl Sanders to be a Cameron kinda guy :P

The guitar tone on carnival is forever is crushing and organic, good call Rez

 I think that Evisceration Plague is one of the heaviest tones I have heard. Crank it on a loud stereo, and it sounds like a sledgehammer to your eardrum.

That CD was one good reason why I picked up a Triple Recto  Of course, there are several more examples... that amp sounds as massive as it gets...

Karl uses stock DSL 100s. I talked to him at NAMM when he came by the Amptweaker booth and he told me straight up.

Peter from Vader has the best live death metal tone I have ever heard. Unfuckingreal. So heavy but tight and articulate. The pinnacle, IMO.

For me, Bloodthirst is CC's best recorded tone but the Rutan albums sound great, too.

Decapitated's Nihility is an unreal recorded DM tone. Absolutely sick. Doesn't hurt that Peter from Vader produced that album.
