Karl uses stock DSL 100s. I talked to him at NAMM when he came by the Amptweaker booth and he told me straight up.

Peter from Vader has the best live death metal tone I have ever heard. Unfuckingreal. So heavy but tight and articulate. The pinnacle, IMO.

For me, Bloodthirst is CC's best recorded tone but the Rutan albums sound great, too.

Decapitated's Nihility is an unreal recorded DM tone. Absolutely sick. Doesn't hurt that Peter from Vader produced that album.

Do you know what they were using on nihility jason?

So uh....Whose got Herbert death metal clips? :D :D :D

STOCK DSL? FML....That just makes me wonder why we spend all this money on gear....not sure I believe that.

Tons of bands use them. Skeletonwitch and 3" of Blood both do as well.

holy shit I can't believe I left that out.
Nihility is absolutely my favorite DM tone.

yeah if you know what this is, please tell us I can't pinpoint it.

I live a little ways away form the guys in Cannibal corpse. my guitar teacher knows them and I saw them live here a few months back, it was SICK! There tone was actually quite good, they just were going straight into triple rectos that night, and had 4 4x12's with EVM 300 watt speakers. I should talk to Pat sometime, and ask for the rundown on all of his gear. I will report back once this happens :D

Yea, I read that about the EVM speakers. I played a recto with EL34's through my 4x12 loaded with all EV 300 watt speakers, and yea, I can see why he uses them! They sound SICk with that head for sure!

Anyone know what was used on the carnival is forever by decapitated? That tone IS sick, especially the title track, was just listening to it at the gym. Sounds killer

Vogg did an interview right when the album came out detailing his rig. I recall reading it was a mix of uberschall and a randall warhead..I think it was a warhead and a recto on nihility also. Their first albums were all solid state iirc and he started blending in tubes over time, works nice.

Sounds huge...Neat guitar rig. It's amazing, because I never jived well with the uberschall ( i had an original model, never boosted though), however some of the nastiest thickest and biggest sounding guitar tones were done with it. I think the rev 2 would be more my style over the Blue, however they are harder to find. There are a few used at GC, but they are no help, and no way of knowing which is which...

I only have a little background with CC.....
but this is the SHIT!!!

What a crazy ass song if you actually listen to it!

Dying Fetus for the win

The Faceless
Necrophagist
Despised Icon
All have great tones, recorded and live.

CC are legends, and live I thought they sounded good.

Always dug these guys a little more for the Brutal........
Mix of CC though. ;)

I dig MC's tone too, dechristianize is killer! alittle bright, but sick for what it is.

So uhh...Will the Herbert satisfy my thirst for heavy thick low mid death metal tones? :D :D

+ 1. Best tone, production and songs too ! Colin Richardson produced it, who also did Heartwork by Carcass which I think is the best death metal tone ever. Heartwork tone is various layered Marshalls with a little 5150 too.

Their best tone begins and ends with 'The Bleeding' for me. I know that was recorded with Crates....but I saw that tour and Rob Barret had just started using Rectos. It was one of the most god-like tones I have ever heard live.

Rob also used that same set-up when he toured with Malevolent Creation....and that also killed it.

Frankly, I am not a fan of the newer down tuned Corpse stuff now. It just doesn't grind like 'The Bleeding' does (Or 'Tomb...' or 'Butchered...')

eviseration does have the best tone...but the diezel will sound better
