The new Friedman IR x will change all that. That 'off' sound you describe will never be overcome in the digital world. The IR X can get plenty heavy and has all the sound and touch feel of a tube head.

I know the IR-X has two real tubes in it but it's not like it hasn't been done before. It's basically a rack preamp but in a pedal format, there have also been others like the VOX Tonelab or those Blackstar 12AX7 pedals that touted "real amp feel and tone." Anyway I'll believe it when I see it (for what it's worth, I absolutely adore the ADA MP-1 even with its flaws, through the right power amp)
