Anderson Drop Top or Suhr Standard?

When a guitar feels stiff it' probably just not setup how you like it. I've played plenty of Anderson's in stores that had higher action for me, or the neck wasn't setup to be just how i like it. Some Suhr's like that also. The majority of guitars though from both Suhr and Anderson usually just play great right off the wall. After that, some minor tweaks and you're good to go.

Anderson for me. The neck shape feels great and the tone kills. For some reason I couldn't get the tone I was looking for out if a Suhr.

Whoa.....landslide. If I had the opportunity to pop into several shops and try them out, it would be different. Picking peoples brains for opinions is about the best I can do from over here.

Thanks for the input.....

Don't forget Gosh and Tyler. Especially considering your avatar. All incredible builders. Can't really go wrong with any of them. Personally I like the vintage vibe of gosh the best. That's a real close contest. They all bring their little unique twists to the same formula. I'm sure playing a bunch, there is one or two from each builder that would talk just right to you.

Anderson. best guitar to ever cross my hands - ever. could not complain about anything on them - literally perfect and worth every penny.

The ONLY thing that is hit or miss for some are the hum-cancelling single coils. They're really stacked humbuckers that let you switch between hunbucker mode, and split or parallel single coil mode.

Id say if you wanted a really good strat that won't break the bank the Suhr Pro series are worth a look at.

its sad to say but after spending some time with my anderson, everything else feels cheap..everything else i pick up ,i go right back to the drop top

Really tough, play both. They are in that elite league for sure, couldn't go wrong with either

I haven't played either, but I do own several Anderson pickups and currently have an H2+ in my PRS. It's by far my favorite bridge pickup after many years and many brands. I've emailed Tom twice and he's responded promptly both times. I agree with many posts in that one couldn't go wrong with either brand, but Anderson's service has won me over completely. I'd go with Anderson based on that alone.

Now, someone give me 4 grand.

:D

Well, if you are planning to order a custom job, it is rather important that you get your hands on a couple first to know what type of neck carve you are looking for example. You just looking to buy used, like off of eBay or something?

big +1 to this, strum an anderson and it will vibrate your teeth. the guitar's resonate like nothing else and project their sound greatly - you can feel it in your gut and in your hands - the guitars are LOUD unplugged - solid build quality and the tones speak for themselves.

it felt, looked, handled, and sounded like a custom $4k guitar. kind of like how expensive hot rods perform, its hard to explain that feeling unless you are in the driver seat. the same applies here - hard to explain the quality over the internet. but having played one and played many guitars, it blows everything i own out of the water and i sure dont own dead woods/guitars on purpose.

im sure suhr's are great but having played an anderson why would you want anything else - its literally perfect in every since to the knob heighths, pot tension, tone, sound/pickups, fit and finish, and the neck i played felt great

I love the Drop Top Classics. I hope to get another one someday.

I´d be happy with both, but I bought an Anderson. I´ve noticed that his pickups are hit or miss with people, though... most of the criticism Anderson gets basically boils down to that his classic line of pickups are a bit too wide-range for a lot of guys, and at the same time they´re one of the big selling points for the guys who like them. As far as I´m concerned the H2+, H3 and H3+ are killers!

I'll say Anderson because I own one, didn't Suhr copy T.A. anyway?
