Anybody here actually use Krank amps?

There is a reason Krank amps have a reputation for sucking... because they do.

Its not like you ever hear about Bogner amps sucking, I mean every company has a turd or two but when it comes to Krank amps there are other amps out there that do anything Krank amps can do but better.

I did hear a Chadwick once that was pretty good sounding but like I said there are better amps out there period why anyone would spend money on a Krank when other better options are out there for the same price or less is beyond me.

it's obvious that alot of people don't gel with Krank amps. that's cool, it keeps them very affordable on the used market for people like me that love them. but people like me, Lasse Lammert and Andy Sneap know how to dial in some tasty tones on them

they are totally affordable on the used market. i am considering picking up a second one, for the price they go for. they take a little more time to dial, but i think it is worth it in the end

That exactly how it is too. I had to have the master set at least to 2-4 o'clock before it sounded ok. With the master that high combined with the ungodly amounts of treble it was just unplayable for me, even just for practice. I prefer more of a liquid lead channel and the rev1 (especially the Krankenstein though) was just stale sounding and dry as hell. I could've lived with that though, it's the highs that really killed it for me, and I use more highs and presence than most. I just couldn't get a happy medium with it and the high end is always there no matter what.

Oh yeah I agree about the sweep knob too, what an awful control. It had barely any usable range and your ability to find that spot makes or breaks the amp. It kind of reminded me of a para eq too, every time I turned a knob it was like I had to turn all the other knobs to compensate.

I'm done talking about it, this is bringing back horrible memories.

hehe yeah, I hear what you are saying. I think that's why the Texas Heats were matched with it, as they attenuated a bit of the topend. Surprisingly, I actually liked mine with a combo of Texas Heats and V30 believe it or not. That and some JJ pres got me a pretty sick metal tone IMO. Dry though for sure, but I kind of liked that.

I'm no fanboi, but I do think they can get some great tones with the right setup and enough tweaking. If I owned a studio, I would definitely own one to add some aggression to different metal mixes. I always liked how that amp blended with others in a mix.

A few years back, Ralphie and I went to see Lynch Mob with Danger Danger and Rob Marcello was playing a Krank Revolution through a Marshall cab( not sure what the speakers were) and hitting it with a Fulltone FullDrive II and I thought that it sounded great( Ralphie didnt LOL) Ive never had any hands on time with the amp though.. When they first came out, the marketing onslaught and BS on the boards was a big turn off...

FWIW, George was great that night except for the damn Phase 90 that was on for the entire set..

I know their amps are well built but I was never a huge fan for me. Having said that I have the Krankshaft overdrive and it's the best sounding tube screamer type of pedal I have owned\played period. Built like a tank as well.

I didn't start this thread to start a shitstorm or anything like that. I noticed that they have the plus amps now, and the SST amp. Was interested in the REV1Plus cause I like 6550 tube amps. Was just wondering if it had more gain and less rip your head off treble than the original Rev1...

I know that wasn't your intention, but that doesn't stop the fact the this thread turned into an old school Krank thread and I am not sure you really got your original questions answered.

ok, i will tell you this. walter from rotting corpse said the krankenstein plus sucks balls. he told me not to buy the one i have, even at the insanely low price i got it for (i got it from someone who won it in a shredder contest). he was right. even tried running a couple of distortion boxes though the clean channel, still insanely shrill. i wanted an amp with 6550 power, so it seemed like a good chance to try one.

the rev's that i have played were much better, including the rev plus.

i like the krank cabs, very well built. but would use a different speaker combo in them. that's a personal preference thing, i love v30's and g12-75's.

my krankenstein plus is going out to get modded. cant sell it, wont give it away. gotta try something....

dead horse is LEGENDARY!!! a bunch of us were listening to the first demo again a few weekends ago. we had an all demo weekend, including gammacide, dead horse, rotting corpse, null and void, and the old rigor mortis demo.

not rotting corpse. possibly "pumping ethel" or "null and void". all the corpse demos are available on 1 cd on ebay cheap. walter at his finest. he is jamming with henry from devisattion now. the new cd smokes. wish he would release it.

'stein can be modded to Rev easily.
I think Dime was losing his hearing, esp. higher frequencies. The Krankenstein is voiced with more treble than the Rev, and the Texas Heats are just plain too much sizzle.
