Good to see the level of talent in the blues genre continue to climb higher and higher. Some truely awesome players that I respect a lot (SRV, Gary Moore, Bonamassa, etc) have either dabbled in it or made it their life's passion. Having said all of that... I'd flat-out HANG myself if I had to play "the blues" like this every night!
Just the blues in its most basic form (as displayed in the video) would just kill me with boredom in short order. I've been a HUGE fan of SRV since I first saw him do ACL back in '84. The guy was something special and I'll always revere him as one of the true greats. But honestly, after about two or three SRV songs I've more than had enough. The tired, old simple song structures just bore me to tears. I loved SRV DESPITE his music being blues, not because of it.
Just my own personal taste and not an indictment of anyone else's. And like I said, these guys are monster players and I truly am happy to see that the future of the genre seems to be in good hands. But it's just not a genre of music that I can listen to for any length of time. I do tend to like much of Bonamassa's work though, because (like another great player, Gary Moore) he does enough different things and styles that it makes it more interesting and enjoyable for me.
I gotcha. In a way, I'm sort of the same way. Traditional blues does very little for me. I need the flash like volume swells, tone knob control, wah, and whammy acrobatics, among others, to hold my interest. Variety's the spice of life.
