Hey guys,

So after much personal debate I'm going to get rid of my Mark V... it's a long story that has nothing to do with the amp itself/tones but rather the awful reliability I've had and their terrible customer service. I listed it for sale last night and got a trade offer from a buddy of mine for a Blockhead Custom 50 head. Apparently it was built to nail the EVH Fair Warning tone... which is definitely a plus. Can anyone tell me anything about these amps as far as tone/reliability or point me to some cool clips? Fortunately I can and will go try it before I trade, but still... might as well use the expertise of these forums where I can!

Cheers,

Will.

don't know a whole lot about them other than brad whitford used one on the 2000 something aerosmith tour. reminded me alot of a souped up marshall.

I think you better really like the Blockhead because you will die with it. (ie: Very poor resale vs. A Mesa Boogie product)

This. Also IMHO, Blockheads are nothing more than handwired Marshall clones that are WAY overpriced for what they really are. I think that you can achieve what you are looking for alot easier and cheaper...

The custom 50 was their attempt at a hotrodded Marshall type amp that supposedly do the vh thing in spades plus had extra gain on tap if needed. All handwired to. They are no longer around , I think that the dude went on to work with 3 monkeys amps or so I heard anyway. I would rather the blockhead then the mesa though. I think that the custom 50 was at least around $2500 and that was years ago when they were still around.
