Anyone using the Suno app?

Jesus Dan. You could just pretend you did it.
Then convince yourself you did do it.
Then move on to the next imaginary project.
No need to involve anyone or anything, or actually do anything.

I can totally see AI being really useful for certain things especially mixing stuff, although i wouldnt ever use it

But especially in this case - for backing tracks - the sheer laziness is astounding

If you're just wanting to woodshed there are 5 trillion in every style, key, and tempo imaginable on youtube

And if you want something even more specific, why not just write some fucking music?

I feel like im taking crazy pills here

The CEO basically said they're going to do really well because most musicians really don't enjoy making music
Yeah, fuck that guy.

"It's not really enjoyable to make music now… it takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of practice, you need to get really good at an instrument or really good at a piece of production software. I think the majority of people don't enjoy the majority of the time they spend making music."

Joke's on him. I'm proud of my hard work.

Yes it takes time and practice.
Maybe a lifetime.
We are musicians.
We knew that.
We have choice.
Any performance is of validity.
Parts of music making are not enjoyable sure, but some bits are a matter of huge joy.
Having made the personal choices, and a subsequent performance, that led to a joyous musical event - this cannot be replaced by anything.

I would even rather program MIDI for drums and synths than let AI give me backing tracks. The more I fuck with the MIDI editor in Reaper, the easier it gets. If I set it up with my little Akai keyboard, it's a snap. It's fun to find counter melodies and harmonies.

I love to record tracks with basic drums. Then go in and change emphasis over vocals, like Keith Moon would do.
For a guitar solo, I want it to sound like me and the drummer have been playing together for years. Making drums fire off the guitar. Making it sound like guitar is firing off a drum lick. That sort of thing.
Then I go back and tweak drums all through, to get drama at key points
I do a complete level-sweep, looking for authenticity mainly.
Then the drums are sub-grouped and into production.
I might have to go back and do it all again, if the ideal sound doesn’t quite match the playing.
It’s great fun.

No.

The tools to make your own backing tracks are easier than they’ve ever been.

Right? You don't even have to program midi anymore

There's a million drum programs that are stupidly easy to use, some of them free for god's sake

Not only that, there are apps that will play bass, keys, and even rhythm guitar if you are feeling too lazy to do that, too

It's so stupidly easy to make your own backing tracks that I thought this post was a troll at first

In the last 6 months or so, at work I’ve noticed the reliance on AI for even general email correspondence has gone through the roof. It’s all the same basic template. “Hi ___, thank you for reaching out about < insert basic reiteration of a key point from senders email >. I find your enquiry very meaningful. Lets circle back to this valuable idea during our next meeting where we can set ourselves up for success.”

Shoot…me…now…
