Probably didn't put a big enough return spring on the throttle plate, would have cost an extra dollar.

Have seen this a few times in my day.
Happened to me twice. The first time the gas pedal stuck to the floor at full throttle as the carb linkage would not release. I was able to pry the gas pedal off the floor with my foot. Never figured out exactly why that happened, and it only did it once. Sprayed down the linkage with carb cleaner and that took care of it.

The second time (on a different car) the throttle linkage got hung up on the bottom of the air filter assembly. The mounting bracket for the linkage had come loose and bent. Turned the key back one click, which killed the engine and I could still steer, without power steering. Took off the air filter assembly and drove it home.
