Babymetal - What is this?

It kind of grows on me. It seems like a very entertaining live show and it's fundamentals are in metal. As posted a great way to bring metal to a crowd base that would not normally pay to see a live metal band in this day of Katy Parry, Mylie Cyrus, and Jake E Lee who has had 36 singers so far. :D

Wow. That is absolutely horrible. Unlistenable.

Having said that, it's no more horrible than the rap and typical pop music out there these days.

I found these guys on youtube last year. first off, the band does in fact play live and they have some pretty sick chops. The drummer is killer and spot on. Wicked feet on that guy. As for the vocals, they use some background canned vocals but so does Steel Panther and it is worked into the live stuff so who cares. Sounds bigger. Sure the poppy vocals don't really do it for me either but some of it is catchy and makes me tune in for one more. The funniest thing about this is, you know once those girls get too old or one of them gets too tall, they can swap them in and out with other younger baby metal girls and nobody will know the difference. Japanese culture loves dirty little school girls, it is f_cked up but they like to sexualize young teens way more than western culture would get away with. It is what it is though.

Awesome introduction. When was the last time a band gave tribute to all the heavy metal legends and old people? I don't care if this group lip sync or uses auto-tune. As long as they are singing rock and heavy metal music then they are ok in my book.

No kidding that was an unbelievable introduction. Killer riffing right out of the gate. I almost feel like a lot of people go to these shows for the pulse of the music. The poppy stuff kind breaks up the monotomy of drop D riffage but when it comes back in, it hits you like a mack truck and it grooves. I don't even really like death metal but i love the groove the rythm section serves up.

One of their live guitarists does some pretty cool shit:

I hated that.

I liked that! :D

I thought that ripped pretty good as well. I bet Malmsteen wishes he wrote that tune.. would have sounded even better with Jeff Scott Sotto on vox!

The Dungeons and Dragons lyrics were a nice change of pace and the guitar player fucking ripped but damn son - what did you do with all the money your mom gave you for singing lessons???
Ugh - you stink.

I won't even comment on the stellar production.

That's Doogie White (ex-Rainbow/Yngwie etc) on vocals, probably having a bit of David Coverdale moment there hahaha.

The sound is bad in that video probably due to encoding, the album sounds alright:

Might as well throw this in the mix.

Not sure what these girls actually play, but the song is very catchy.

This does not suck. Not at all. Actually pretty cool and catchy!

I miss this in the earlier post but yeah this song is actually good. However, this band is missing something that Babymetal has and that is the it factor. What is the it factor? The it factor was what the early David Roth + EVH and Yngwie Malmsteen era has. When I first heard and saw the early EVH and Yngwie Malmsteen era, I was totally blown away. I'm not saying that Babymetal is in the same company as these bands but when I first saw their videos and performances I was like what the fuck is that? It was so new and different that it caught my attention. As you can see the audiences around the world are watching their videos and that is what the it factor is all about.

Wait, I'm confused. If I don't like this tripe I'm close minded or a bitter hater?
Am I not allowed to have an opinion in the new age of tolerance?

I understand that this music is not for everybody. So what kind of music or bands do you usually listen too? I'm a hard core 80's hair metal band music lover so Babymetal is not the typical type of music that I listen to but I find this band to be so refreshing and original and it caught my attention.

From what I can gather, the guitarist on the left is a graduate of the Musician Institute from Japan. I believe MI is run by the ESP guitars company in Japan. The guitarist on the right used to play guitar for Marty Friedman's band. This guy is the real deal. He uses a combination of 6 and 7 for drop C or D on the 7 string. He has a line of guitar from ESP below.
