Internet forum butt hurt threads have to be the lamest thing ever. Funny how people who start them liked the forum just fine, until they got kicked off. WAAAAAH!

I'm sorry to hear the OP got banned over on The Gear Page for a couple of weeks.
Considering the OP started this thread almost 3 years ago hes probably over most of the butt hurt by now?

I got banned there a few mos. ago for some totally BS non-political comment that was a response to someone else's non-political comment. When they banned me, they had already nuked the thread, so the link they sent me as reason for the banning was dead, as were all the notification links. Whatever. It happened as I was headed on a two week trip to Europe and lasted two weeks. So I didn't really miss anything. IIRC, the thread was about lowering the sale item's value on a customs declaration in order to avoid paying duty. Yeah, real hot potato, wedge issue there. Some bag o'doosh, replying to me, wrote something to the effect that I had, through my elected government, agreed to those import duties. Uh huh. That makes a lot of sense.

I've been banned a bunch of times.. People are soft.

People nowadays are heavily invested into thinking their You tube likes and Facebook opinions really matters..

There's nothing more cringe-worthy than when RT gets political.

+1 - Nobody's political opinion is getting changed by anything posted here.

I'm not a fan of modern day liberals and TGP seems to be full of them.

My hyperbolic over-generalizations:

Rig-Talk = working and former pros/semi-pros who are in their early 30s - early 50s, who've grown-up and developed their careers successfully enough to support their boutique gear habit... which tends to lean towards surgically-precise playing and looking axes and multi-channel amps with high-gain options mostly voiced in the hot-rod Marshall vein. JCM800 era tones being indicative of a starting point for "holy grail" tone. Hardly a shit can be found to be given regarding super old school simple amps and guitars (see below), nor is an over-abundance of respect to be found for yuppy players who never paid their dues gigging in the trenches. They like to debate controversial topics and are confident enough in themselves to be able to do so without pants-wetting fear of offending someone or making them uncomfortable.

TGP = doctors and lawyers who never gigged seriously, some of whom may gig with their gray-haired professional buddies now "for fun", and have an even snootier boutique gear habit... which leans towards EXPENSIVE classic designs of Leo Fender in guitars and amps (whether real Fenders or boutique clones). Fender Champ type circuits being the holiest of grails. Players who spent time making a living by gigging (see above) aren't worthy of respect if they can't afford the finer things in gear. They put on the charade of piously avoiding subjects likely to stir spirited debate... all the while dropping condescending remarks that support their own left-leaning view of the universe.

Totally painting with a broad brush here... but those are the general observations and stereotypes that I've witnessed over the past several years. Doesn't mean that I don't visit both places, but I only stroll through the other place periodically like a coach-class ticket-holder walking through the first-class section on his way to his tiny seat. Sure, first-class looks pretty nice... but I'm just not into being that uptight and don't want to fork-out the extra dough for a trip that ends at the same terminal. ;)

I agree! However, I do wear tan pants once in while! TGP I visit once in a while but the vibe I get from there is that not a lot of people over there play metal where here the majority of the people play metal. There's nothing wrong with that but RT leans towards what I play. I need more pictures! How about a hot girl with a fishing rod in her hand!

Maybe it needs a better explained forum title. THE GEAR PAGE. RIG TALK* pretty fucking simple one would think. I was a member of the gear page for a couple years its pathetic and the mods are the real tough guys who will suspend you for an opinion. So simple for me.. bye bye and all the bs that goes with it.

yeah there are different kinds of TGP mods, mods thats ban for no reason, mods that are company bias, and mods that are nothing but assholes, seems that TGP mods are the same mods from other forums sites

Mmmmmm... who gives a damn about politics when they can stare at Taylor Momsen and drool instead?

TGP. The mods are some real stand up guys. Hate say it maybe all of them aint classless. I asked one a question once and his reply was... dude i am a moderater, u cant come at me like that". I asked him about what some user had said to me, i said it was shitty and was that ok"? and he replies.. u cant come at a mod like that".
Some real authority there now. I was terrified and ran from my computer screen

That site is so heavily moderated as to be safe for an 11-year-old girl to read it (because that's what you need in a guitar forum populated mainly by 50-something-year-old dudes...)

I try to see things from their perspective. They are just people, trying to manage a really massive online forum full of people with very diverse opinions. Oh, and they do it for free. They spend a LOT of time answering endless PMs from people bitching about all kinds of stuff.

Speaking generally, I can understand how they would have to manage each comment/complaint quickly and efficiently, or they'd never get the job done. Remember - they are doing this after they get home from a full day of work elsewhere.

Modding is a thankless job. I know two of the mods at TGP personally, and they couldn't pay me to do that job (not that they've offered :) ) Sure, they are going to get it wrong sometimes, just like a referee in sports. They do their best, and most of them try to be fair. I know one of them in particular is douchey and prickly to talk to.

The reason they cut off political threads or ones where insulting comments appear is because members generally cannot work things out/through themselves. It's going to eventually blow up, so the best way to calm it down is just remove the cause of the drama for a couple of days/weeks.

I was a mod on a BMW board and people often emailed me about private sales between forum members that had gone wrong, bad item descriptions, buyer's remorse, etc. WTF? Like I could do anything about that beyond banning the bad guy, IF he really turned out to be wrong.

Agreed it would be a tough thankless job. I dont have anything against any mod or any inestment with TGP, inwas a supporting memeber until i asked for my account to be closed and they gladly closed it.

Is her undie 2 tone or is there a lil' camel wandering in the desert...?

Never been banned from there. Actually, I've only ever been banned from Sevenstring.org for a lot of reasons no one actually knows, but we suspect since it happened within 1 day of refusing to sell Wired Guitarist to the owner for his lowball figure, that might be the main reason. They also say I sold a guitar with a "cracked body" because the actual gold was checking. The current owner of it and 100 other Ibanez rarities that has it in a showcase in his living room gets a kick out of that. :D

But never TGP. I never knew it was this easy to get banned there! I really thought the mod squad there did a good job keeping it clean, maybe I was wrong.

Again it's their house and their rules.... either play by them or don't go there. Why that's such hard concept to grasp is really weird.
