I live in a pretty quiet apartment. Im looking for an attenuator for my 6505+ combo amp. Looking for any sort of decent Vhish hard rock tone or even maybe slightly more modern rock tone. i generally play Ibanez 6 string in D standard.

I also have a Carvin 100watt tube amp that hasnt been used in years, if I get an attenuator, who knows, the Carvin might see some use. I also have a Line6 Spider3 with 4x12 half stack that gets used for practicing

The main use will be just to bring down the volume of the 6505+ so I can get some kind of tone out of it. As it is, I have to keep it so quiet that essentially I just get a sort of fuzzy/fizzy tone

Here is how I plan to use the attenuator:

1) bring down the volume of the 6505+ and still use the 6505+ speaker to record thru an sm57

2) possibly set up a EVH style slave set up using the 6505+ as the slave into the load box, then fx, then either one of my other amps or whatever.

3) Also of course any flexibility such as DI and built in cab sim outputs are a plus

I use Reaper on Win10

So the main question. if I am going to generally use the Combo speaker anyway, do I need to worry about buying a reactive load as opposed to just a resister type load box?

I assume this Koch loadbox is pretty long in the tooth now but the price and features look nice. Would it be decent or does it have any known issues? (tone etc)

I dont mind spending some $$$ but I dont want to just throw money away

Im mainly looking to keep things simple. Though I do have some ownhammer IRs etc, generally I dont want to get into those complications. Life is hard enough as it is lol.

What would be the main options for what I described??

Thanks, JJ

You don't want a true attenuator. All they do is goose the power tubes. Modern high gain amps rely on preamp distortion.

Look into the suhr reactive load box, the Fryette power station, and various two notes products. That is what I am researching too at the moment.

I am likely going two notes and using the wall of sound IR's.
