Best tube head for $600 or less?

If you're patient, and I mean patient, you should be able to come by a Mesa Mk3 for around $600. Maybe not one with an EQ.

I frequently see used Fender Prosonic and Supersonic heads drop in the $5-600 range in good condition, even at GC nowadays. Both are great heads with cascading gain stages that'll go from Fender clean into a decent mid-gain crunch with heavy sustain - should give you a nice change of pace from the Carvin and Mesa.

I'd thought about a supersonic but I keep reading about problems with them. The clips online do sound great though.

I had a B-52 AT100 that I sold a couple years ago for less than $300... Oh wait, did you mean best head to BUY for under $600, or best head to get rid of at all costs?!? :D

The B-52 actually had a really nice clean channel and fairly decent reverb, but the distortion channel sounded like the Dimbucker pickup of amplifiers...

I had a Randall RM100 that will give you the full array of tones for the different genres that you play. They're out of productions so they're realivetly cheap now on Ebay. Good Luck
