Bogner Snorkler Deluxe

Loved the non-public Snorkler vid you did that you posted on RT.- it was cool to see you shoot the shit and go through the amp conversationally. I think that was a one off vid for someone. Loved the posted video too man. Clearly we’re all waiting with bated breath to see what you think of this new one lol!
Thanks man. The video I'll put out today will be casual like the video you were mentioning. I had just made that video for a friend of mine but everyone here wanted to hear so I shared it. If anyone wants to watch it, you can check it out here:

Then I'll do a proper full song and tone demo situation in a week or two.

Hell yeah dude that’s the one.

Mine was not. I am guessing you don't have much RF interference where you are. It's one of the downsides of the two gain stages that have no grid stoppers early in the circuit.
I remember it being a really noisy amp and if you watch the first part of the video I just shared, I comment that it's very noisy and has a high noise floor. So YMMV but that was my experience.

Thought the Randall Smith video was so freaking awesome. LOL Also great tone on the Snorkler video.
Thanks man. Some of those old videos were pre-Wellbutrin, so I was a little unhinged 😂

That said, based off the info that ended up leaking out, I'd say my thoughts were pretty on the mark.

It's here! I have a meeting in 5 minutes so I won't get the first impressions video recorded until later this afternoon but it's my top priority.

To hold you over, here are scans from the manual.

Most interesting highlights:
  • 5 x 12AX7's
  • Reworked power amp for more modern sound
  • The purple channel is an extra gain stage on top of the red channel so... 🔥
  • S.B. shifts the presence frequency lower (like a Diezel)
  • EQ shifts the tone stack from mid-forward to mid-scooped
  • Gain I & II function the same way as the original (Gain II only active in red/purple modes)
  • Bright also only active in red/purple modes (very interesting)
  • Bite switch on is the "standard" Snorkler sound; off is a darker sound
Neat fact confirmed in the manual: the Deep switch does indeed tame treble, flattens mids, and boost lows (in the video above, I said I suspected something was up with it on my Snorkler 50 non-deluxe)

good one^^

that's a very mid heavy amp which i normally hate, but somehow i like it?!

I wonder how he did this as the 12ax7 count is the same. Maybe one of the triodes in the v3 was not utilised in the standard Snorkler and in the DLX he's pulling that side in as an extra stage on that Purple switch. Could also be diodes? As it is a separate switch from the Mode wondering if it can be added on top of Blue as well, instead of Red...🤔 Looking forward to the video!

Edit: Actually, had a look at the standard Snorkler PCB, the Purple switch is very close to the V2, maybe it's a V2 triode... Dunno. Can't trace it from my photo atm

Might follow the same pattern as the Helios. The regular Helios left one half of a 12AX7 unused. And then in the Helios Eclipse, they utilized it for another gain stage.

Hey Mike, congrats on the DLX! When you have a chance to play yours, would be great to hear how Density and Depth (being both NFB controls targeted for low end) interact. Also Reinhold has been using the "purple" for generally mid gain modes (Helios JB45, 104 etc) so will be interesting to see where it sits on this one. SW description says it's "heavy" but not sure if it means more gain than red tbh. It being a separate switch also is interesting as that mode switch still looks like the same two-way on the normal version. "PUPRP.B." is a typo maybe?

"S.B" is also a weird name for a presence freq shift switch. Wondering what that stands for, hope he detailed more in the manual. Also I don't recall a presence freq switch on 101B, my '09 wheat grill doesn't have it. It has a presence assignment switch. Maybe they are referring to excursion which would be more "depth"? No idea.

I have the standard Snorkler 50, which is hard to make it sound bad tbh. Have a feeling this is giving users more control but it'll be possible to move it out of the sweet range. Like it feels Snorkler DLX is a BE100 Deluxe, while the normal Snorkler is like "Dave's Choice" (whenever that amp comes out lol)

It stands for Super Bass as it is most likely an on and off of the low presence frequency from a Marshall Super Bass. This is a picture from my Pandora manual with the same switch. Agree with everyone that ideally it would be 100W as the low end on the 50W was most folks biggest complaint. My Bogner snorkler modded Marshall JMP 2203 (100W) is one of my overall favorite amps of all time.

1 x 12ax7 for the phase inverter, 1 x 12ax7 for the loop leaves 3 tubes for six potential gain stages. The Snorkler is a plate fed tonestack,.

Ah this makes it clear, thank you! And it also explains why SW referred to "Ecstasy" in the description. They were talking about the Pandora.

I'll be interested to hear whether the extra gain is truly usable. I never thought of the original Snorkler as an under-gained amp.

Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I just do this for fun (i.e., no monetization) so it's really nice when people get value out of the videos.

Just wanted to say thanks for the vids, too. I've watched a number of them and found them really useful. Greatly appreciated and definitely valuable.
