The H75 and V30 are both 100db, so they’re both equally “efficient.” The H75 probably seems louder bc of the piercing highs. A cab with V30/H75 seems like it’d be icepick central. Certain V30’s can be “darker” than others, like the Mesa V30. I would not mix EVH GB’s and V30. Too much db difference.
No. It didn't *seem* louder. It *was* louder. I tried mic'ing up and recording both up. There was a difference in the waveform with the same preamp gain settings, not just aurally, but visually as well. Not as huge as there was with a G12EVH. But a difference.
I'm not sure how to explain it. My guess is Celestion's readings aren't super precise. They don't have decimals published like Eminence do. My guess is maybe the V30 is like 99.6 dB in efficiency, and the Creamback is like 100.4? Both would round up to 100, so that would make sense. This is just me assuming, though. And I wish I had some of the files saved to show you, but there was a difference not just in "perceived" loudness.
I later swapped out those V30's for a pair of Relic 30's, and those were about the same level when mic'd up compared to the H75's. The Relics were MUCH darker, though, so those could've been up for interpretation of what would *seem* louder in the room. Maybe there was something wrong with my V30's? I bought them new, and they did sound good.
However, there is also the question of speakers from different years sounding different. Mine where Chinese 25th Anni. So I'm guessing 2012? But did you catch that post where they mentioned how much different Mesa V30's sound in cabs from the 2000's compared to 2010's, regardless of break-in time?
And yeah, mixing EVH's and V30's did not yield awesome results.
