Boss Katana vs tube amps?

Just think how stoked those of us who had a peavey backstage back in the day would have been with one of the Katans.

I like mine for what it is - a living room practice amp and a backup at gigs. I have had to deploy it at gigs twice when power issues wrought havoc with my Marshall tube heads. I had the Katana head for a few mos. before I knew it had an internal speaker. Once I discovered that, I parked it under the coffee table to play through when learning stuff on my computer for band practice. Its compact size makes it very easy to just toss in the car for a gig backup. It will never be my main band amp, but it will do in a pinch.

I have a Catalyst 100; I use it in 4CM + MIDI with my HX Effects. Sounds good for what it is, I'd use it live. Also have a small wireless rig based on the Mooer Prime P1, I like it too; sounds good but no feel, I'd use it live. I have a Boss SY-1000, I like it too, I'd use it live. The cost vs tube amps is good too.

None of these are better than my tube amps, more versatile, lighter, sound good, etc., sure.

FWIW, I used modeling for years starting with the original Vox ToneLab tabletop, to Fractal, to Boss, to Line 6, Zoom, etc. I get it, I like it, but still prefer tube amps, including my Marshall Origin 50, more.

I have the 100w combo and changed the 12' to an Altec. So basically the speaker is worth more than the amp. LOL But, that change and a lot of dialing in with the eq in the app and I've had a few guys think it was a Marshall with pedals. It doesnt quite feel like a tube amp and I wouldnt trade any of my tubes for it, but for a grab and go or a quick session jam its absolutely worth it IMO. It does need tweaks right out of the box though.

As much as I think the Katana is solid, it's still a budget amp.

The modeling itself is decent, but it's still no AxeFX.

The speakers are OK, but they're still no Celestions.

The rest of the components are probably not top-notch either.
