Hermansson amp shootout

What’s up dudes? Got requested this one a while back here. Here’s a Marshall vs triple recto. My own thoughts are they are fun amps to play. They’re closer than I initially thought. I don’t hammer the tightness knob as much as some do, but I do set it high at a certain point in the video. Every time I play some modded stuff my main takeaway is I usually just like a boosted version of the original amp better, but that’s just me. Also, I do sometimes get a laugh of people saying the micd up versions of Hermanssons don’t sound like the amp. They sound exactly like the amp. Anyway, hope everyone has a good weekend.

Goddamn I always forget how badass your guitars are.

I am not a fan of the tone on this video, though you usually have the tone where I would want it. It seems kind of fizzy. I think it would be badass if you would dial both amps to where they shine rather than trying to dial the marshall close to recto

To be honest man, Hermanssons are fizzy on the top end. This is with it tamed. I think @RaceU4her can chime in there. I know he usually uses a bit of eq for his when recording.

The single recto I had was really fizzy and couldn’t be tamed there. I didn’t want to create a false picture of the amps by eqing it out and show straight up what’s going on. If you listen to henrics in the room videos it’s definitely there, just not as apparent as when under a mic.

I’m not saying they’re bad amps by any means, they have a lot of great qualities. The high end IMO isn’t my favorite.

I get the wizard thing. You have to have a room that can soak up that high end. Otherwise it is fucking awesome for 10 minutes then grating as fuck on the ears.

Having/had both, I find the Mesa to be way more fizzy than the 5GS Marshall. With the Mesa I needed the presence cranked at all times and I find the Marshall more flexible in that regard (though I like bright, so it's usually pretty high).

You mentioned tending to prefer all the knobs at noon-ish, I think that's intentional design by him. Both mine were the same and every demo he does the EQ is always at noon (with presence dimed).

Overall great video though man. Such unique mods that I wish there was more discussion around them. He's recently started describing the mods a bit better in his YouTube descriptions which I'm finding helpful for understanding what my 5GS does.

Felt the same way. I really liked the tone in that recent Wizard shootout, but this sounds like there may have been an extra mic unmuted somewhere or some unwanted clipping.

It impresses me these Hermanson mods take a different approach than the smoother Gower/Ground Zero type thing, a least to my ears. Sounds more Marshally in a good way. I’d still much prefer a hot modded JMP with depth control just to keep things a little less “tampered” with. I also prefer more low mids in my voicing so for this reason as well a lot of the more modern mods don’t appeal. Still enjoying your recent traunch of videos though. I’d probably never hear let alone own many of the amps on your channel so it’s useful counterpoint to my own collecting/tone chasing. I request Hell Razor vs Hermanson Marshall next!

You ever get a chance to try a ground zero moab, do it. That amp is everything right about a marshall and punches you in the chest like a wizard

Your thoughts in the vid are pretty spot on with mine about my Carlsbro. Mine id say has a little more of a "grittier" gain structure going on than what im hearing with these two, but the controls interact in the same finicky manner. I like G12-65's and their smoother character, and my mesa 5 band in the loop can tame things with the 2200hz. Mine is by far the most touch sensitive amp i have, its really more a lighten up the grip and let the amp take over than an amp you gotta dig into to make it sing, but thats not necessarily a bad thing to me playing extreme metal, which is what i wanted it for. When i do find that sweet spot with the settings, it really does punch hard, but that punch can also be hard to record.
