Bought a ‘77 Marshall that says “Cameron”

Recently bought this ‘77 Marshall JMP Master MKII - 50 watt off FB marketplace. It’s been lightly modded, definitely has a good amount of gain and sounds killer! There’s a spray painted stencil on the bottom that appears to read “Cameron”. Any connection to Mark Cameron?

Has the original 6550’s. The 10k cold clipper was changed to a 4.7k and bypassed with a 100 mfd cap. V2A has .68 bypass cap (maybe moved from the Presence pot)…plus some weird shielded coax from V1. The bright cap had been removed so I added a ceramic 1000 pf.

Killer amp, just needs a recap and bias resistors replaced.

No, it's not in Russian. But as the guy who sent Mark the amp and the cash for the mod and is still waiting for it to come back, I’m pretty sure he’s got bigger fish to fry than worrying about a custom font for the signature on the bottom of the amp.

Personally I don’t believe it’s real. Some things Cameron does to increase gain and feel aren’t even touched here - he doesn’t just add gain to an amp, he revoices it for a tone and also changes how it feels under the fingers. I think you have a well modded amplifier from someone who took the time to do a mod well, but the attention to detail this amplifier has, combined with the other things that seem missing, make me think it’s not his work.

But with that said, if you love the tone it still looks like a great amplifier and the mods are done well. Zero anything to be ashamed about with that build and it looks like a solid amplifier and still a solid mod platform should you ever want more out of it.

No. Mark gooped stuff way back in the day but I think I have seen more non-gooped than gooped examples online and my amp has no goop, just some blacked out components.

No. Mark gooped stuff way back in the day but I think I have seen more non-gooped than gooped examples online and my amp has no goop, just some blacked out components.

He also signed his early mods to validate them from my memory. Without the signature it’s hard to tell as well. The writing on the bottom is not how he labeled his mods.

Thanks for the reply! It’s not a groundbreaking tone or super gained out. As you said, modest and clean mod. The sprayed on stencil is odd and most likely NOT associated with Mark Cameron.

Maybe not the right thread for this - but I would love more explanation from those who understand amps exactly what is going on that makes an amp 'feel' slippery and easy under the fingers. I hear this quality in all of the Cameron clips I have heard online and would like to know more about what this from a technical standpoint.

I have over the years owned about 8 Cameron's way back and I have rarely seen one that wasn't completly covered in that black goop that he likes to pour all over everything like maple syrup.
