Maybe just add this to the rules

"Limit of 1 necro-bump per 24 hours"

And be done with it

I dont see what the problem is...

If you've read it before either dont go into the thread or use the back button on your browser. No big deal

Sorry, that makes no sense.

I don't know if you remember every title of the 10000 threads you've ever read and the dates that they were first posted... there are no dates on the main page but the last posted date so how would you know if they were old threads?

If you've read the thread before, there's more than likely something in the title that drew you to it and you want to check it out. When you find out it's a thread from three years ago, it's really fuckin annoying not only because you've read it before and usually realize it halfway through, but also because all the current relevant threads get pushed down and onto the next pages, forcing you to search for the ones you currently remember and are interested in.

It'd be different if you bumped an old thread once in a while to see where people are at now compared to when they first posted, but to bump 50 old threads to the front page in less than 12 hours to hock your gear with nothing to contribute but 'lol' or some other stupid comment, you should be banned and/or shot.

I can't believe I had to explain that :aww:

Thank Christ I didn't have to explain it.

The bumps are done in response to the 50 post rule, making even more rules will just lead to more confusion. I am not a big fan of adding more rules , its a slippery slope and its easy to get carried away and make a big deal out of something that isn't, even though intentions may be admirable. With PayPal we are protected anyway and in actuality 50 post rule doesn't protect anyone from anything, posting pics and seller history is more helpful. Locking old threads that may contain useful info or that may again be relevant is a terrible idea.

He must have hit his 50 posts and unloaded his shit because he made no comments here. Shit he coulda got at least 15 out of here alone  :LOL:Maybe hes one of those elitist necrophagiacs or somethin

FWIW in the two necro threads of mine he bumped (which did take me by surprise in the ol' inbox :D ) he bumped with a relevant post and not just random bullshit. I'm not sure what the big deal is myself but this forum isn't my life either and I don't take anything on the internet, especially forums, all that seriously. I feel people get worked up about nonsense on the internet that would never bother them in reality. Kind of interesting that people have put so much of their self worth and identity in these arenas.

I think you're taking us taking this seriously far too seriously.

Trust me, if I had any life outside of rig talk, this stuff would annoy me IRL too.

I guess I missed the smiley face that was smiling. Maybe it's hiding in the new asshole you guys tore in the thread recipient.........(insert my smiley face here).

He probably won't see this since he's just here to spam. Does the same thing on every other internet forum out there.

I personally don't think resurrecting old threads in and of itself is bad. The information is possibly still relevant to many people, people that maybe missed the thread when it was started, weren't members then or just bought a piece of gear talked about in the thread. I moderate gearslutz and people are encouraged to do searches and bring up old threads instead of starting new ones with the same topic. Could clean things up around here and get rid of some of the 10,000 treads about Jose mods.

My 2 cents.

It's all good, I'm not worked up at all, but a bunch of grown men acting like bitchy teenagers on Facebook would irritate me in real life as well, so take it as you want.

Easy, easy, it's just the internet man. Don't take it so seriously....

Bingo

...and don't forget about the Metallica threads... ohgodthehorror

Suggestion: In addition to the min post count, set a min time period (a la ss.org); They currently have it set @ 6 months which is too much IMHO, but seems to work!

But James, This would negate the ability for one of these guys to reply in a new thread from a newbie about BKP pickups/Friedman/Fortin etc. to "Use the search function". See nobody wins. Oh wait a minute I've responded again in this thread. I do care!! I do CARE!!!!!!!

I agree 100% James. If you find an old thread that is relevant to a question you have currently or otherwise is relevant to current issues, bump away. It makes perfect sense to do so.

My issue with what 'Brad737' did was not simply with necrobumping threads. It was with necrobumping dozens of unrelated dead threads over a 2-day period, usually with relatively worthless comments, with the sole intention of getting his post count to 50 so he could post his gear in the Classifieds. As soon as he had hit the 50 posts, he listed two things in the Classifieds and then logged out of the site, leaving the main Rig-Talk forum almost entirely polluted with dead threads and pushing all of the current threads down onto the 2nd and 3rd pages.
