What are the differences in tone between the Yeti 100 and the KK 100? Are they very different? Is the KK just a two channel Yeti?

Yeti is more "Marshall," and the KK is a bit tighter and smoother, more saturated, and more modern. They are different enough that I wouldn't be opposed to owning both at the same time (if I had unlimited cash).

IMO, the KK is not a two-channel Yeti, but I haven't reviewed schematics side-by-side.

Some concessions must be made because the KK is dual channel and has a few additional features. But the Meat & Potatoes part of the circuits appear identical. You can always email Nik @ Ceriatone and ask. He will give the details.

Both the Yeti and KK have the same lead channel for all intents and purposes:

1uF/3K cathode bypass in the first two stages
1uF/820R in the third stage
390K V1a plate load
500-560pF/47K tone stack
470K/500-560pF treble peaking circuit with "pussy trimmer" variable pot in place of the typical 470K to ground
39K/8ohm NFB with the same presence/depth circuits
Same diode clipper
Same bright and mid boost caps on the switches
Same PI topology (.1uF output caps, 120/150/220K gird leaks depending on 50 watt or 100 watt
0.022uF couplers everywhere else except for one half of V1 which has 0.0022uF

46&2, do you think you can make a Yeti, Chupa, or KK sound like Dave's clip ? That would be killer...

Not without knowing what that amp was. Every amp Cameron built was different. So a schematic from one amp won't be the same as another one. Even if the "mod was the same." I've got schematics for a few Cameron amps. Who knows what was going on inside Dave's.

Here is the Jose clip...

Logged in to the forum for the first time in years to say thank you for sharing this again. This clip, along with the other one where you whip out "Reign Of Fire" by Armored Saint are easily two of the best tones I've heard. And that's coming from someone who generally doesn't like Marshall type tones.

This is probably the best Marshall metal tone I have ever heard, and I've heard a lot. Do you still have this amp?, or do you know what was done to it?, or better yet do you have gut shots? :)

EDIT: Ok reading through I see it had the Aldrich mod. Thanks

It's the Jose, not the Aldrich. Thats the first thing Dave says in the video

This is a Jose mod. 1979 Marshall 50 watt. It had 2 push pulls on the gain knobs for bright caps and a push pull depth pot. That's it. The amp had a massive sound. I only sold it since I preferred the CCV more. In hindsight I should have empty the amp.

FWIW, I still have and use the CCV I got from Mark back in 2010.

Nice! So its an otherwise stock JCM/A 800 with the Jose style 20v zener diode clippers right before the tone stack, and a depth mod added to the NFB.

Is that the depth knob in the top input? or is that a Jose MV?

Thanks

Yeah, 20 volt zeners. Added pot is a master volume. Depth is on the back.

Got it  you da man. I know what my next build will be

That one sold like 2 months ago.

That tone is average for a Builder who knows what they're doing.

There a 2 dozen places that can get you there.

Christ I wish it was this easy !!! If that's ALL it takes I'm jumping on the next JMP Marshall I see for sale and attacking it with a soldering iron !!!

Found a 50 watt JCM 800 for short money locally. Dave, what output tubes were you using in that clip and what were they biased at ?

We'll It should get you in the ballpark, however I expect a fair bit of experimentation.
