I don't know how the super distortion stacks up to the Duncan distortion but here it goes....I use the Duncan Distortion in over half of my guitars. I love it and the scream of the ceramic magnet. Yes, I can use this for much more than metal but like Rez said, there are far better choices if you aren't looking for screaming harmonics etc. I have two Les Pauls that sound and feel almost the same. I have the Distortion set in one, and a set of 2nd degree blackbelts in the other. The blackbelts are great pickups. Very versatile and extremely open sounding. They are nowhere near the output of the Distortion but stomp on a boost and you are in business. I have always went back and forth with hot pickups and lower output pickups. I always come back to the Distortion except in this case. The MCP are the best sounding, lower output pickups I've tried. They are the only hot paf style that didn't get taken out after two weeks. I think you'll love them.

Thanks man! Yeah, let me tell you something. That Duncan Distortion is an outstanding pickup!! I used to have that pickup in several guitars, primarily in an Gibson SG, which sounded awesome! I like all types of pickups from lower output up to higher. I think I get advantages out of every type and I think I'm feeling like a lower output in my Les Paul, will be a great counter to the higher output JB in my G&L and VH Frankenstein in my Van Halen Custom "Kramer" guitar. That way I have a mix of all types of things. I'm pretty confident I'll like the 2nd Degree BB, especially because I have an AxeFX-II so there is a myriad of different amps and pedals I can mess with. :)

For balls out metal the duncan distortion is probably my personal fav!
it has that real evil, sinister midrange grind i love!

It is so hard figuring out what's "best" for anyone because tone is relative.)

And that's just the start. That pickup that sounds so great in one guitar may sound like dogshit in the next one, and vice versa.
There are certain pickups that I prefer in general, but the only rule that I've found is that there is no pickup that is right for every guitar.
As an example, I've gone on record as saying that hate the Dimarzio Tone Zone...and I do in most cases. BUT, I happen to have an old prepro Charvel mutt that sounds it's absolute best with that pickup in it, at least when compared to the others that I've had in it (JB, '59, Custom, Distortion, Dimarzio PAF).
All you can do is try a model out based on your understanding of what it brings to the party. If it doesn't work, try to understand why, and make your next selection based on that analysis.
The biggest thing to remember is that there are no absolutes...your favorite pickup may sound awful in a certain guitar, and your least favorite may be just what a different guitar needs to wake it up. All you can do is just keep trying. Good luck!!!

Hey any of you guys using them out there(Rez, anyone), how well do the 2nd Degree BB pups split?
