The protesters? Not exactly. It's obviously their own government doing the killing. However, Trump did encourage them to revolt, said he would "rescue them", then sat back and twiddled his tiny thumbs while they got mowed down en masse.

I don't know, maybe wait and see if troops actually went there? If I told you there was an air bag at the bottom of a 20-story building and it was safe to jump, would you jump without checking first?

I may be stupid. You're right, they would most likely just bomb them into oblivion. I guess it depends on the objective.
But, Iran has the capacity to strike US bases in the middle east, so there is still the potential for deaths of US soldiers.
