One of the best modded Marshall sounds out there. Love my Chupa 50. Sounds great through just about anything. G12T-75s, G12C-30s, Greenbacks (20 or 25 watts)--just about everything I have. Plexi mode sounds awesome cranked up.

I reckon it is too. Not even considering what they cost new, you get a freaking awesome sounding amp. Very versatile as well.

If you need two channels, don't necessarily write it off as I found a simple way to get a very decent clean sound from it. Run any half decent 4cm modeller into it and you have an instant clean channel with the Chupa/Yeti for gain. Modellers like the HD500 POD or RP1000 etc second hand are cheap so you essentially get a 2nd channel, tuner, gate, FX etc into the bargain.

Hmmm... I just roll off the volume and it cleans up nicely.

Depends on how much gain we are talking about.

Try that with the gains @ 2pm, modern mode, both bright switches to the left (facing the amp) and the pussy trimmer maxed out. It doesn't clean up well like this but what amp would.

Love my Chupa 100! About the bright switches, for gainy stuff - I seem to never like engaging both at the same time, gets too bright (for me). My only real problem is still trying to decide which direction sounds best, left or right. I think to the right is a little warmer and to the left has a bit more bite. I'm still learning to dial it in, but so far I think I'll be using them (either one) set left for rhythm, right for leads.

A tiny Chupa crunch clip...

Testing Bright Switch 1 Right / Download

To the right, it is a bright switch. To the left adds gain but no brightness.

Cool...wasn't 100% sure about this.

I frequently use two switches to the left as you can get away with this with the Yeti. Two to the right can be a little tricky to dial in for high gain so I generally use the era in conjunction with a single bright switch or use both to the left in the various era modes.

Just got a Chupa 50. These are killer amps. Quality is awesome. Takes a little to dial in between the 2 gains and 3 bright switches but this is very versatile. Old school plexi to modern stuff. I'm not a brootz player but this amp can do it. Handwired at the pricepoint, it's a no brainer.

i would love to get my hands on either a 50 or 100 at some point

Resurrecting a classic :rawk:

I had to go back and reread this one just to remember what good times it used to be around here

I think I had joined a few months prior to this....times change, people get bored with forums and move on...but yes it was a different place. Not that it's bad now, just different....

These amps are still badass. I have both the Yeti and Chupa. Chupa is still my all-time favorite amp.

I've got a Yeti and I wish it had a bit more sag. How much looser is the Chupa than the Yeti? Is the Chupa much brighter than the Yeti?

I keep seeing these Chupacabras talked about here and elsewhere so I did a quick search and found a bunch of shitty clips, however, this one caught my attention.

Might have to put one of these on the to try list.

Chupa does have more sag. How much? I don't know if I can quantify it. It is also brighter. But that doesn't mean fizzy or harsh or that it has more treble. It has more of an upper-mid grind.

Yeah, a lot of the clips (including mine) of the Chupa and Yeti are complete crap. For some reason, everybody EQs these amps really bright and fizzy. But in person, they sound great. And it really depends on the speakers. I've found that G12M-25 (greenbacks) sound best. That clip you posted is ok. It's kinda dark and muddy compared to what it sounds like in the room. The crap clip I posted a page or two back is closer to how mine sounds in the room at least.

More upper mid grind sounds good to me

Does the Chupa need to be clean boosted on the front end to tighten it up and get a nice attack?

Here's a few in the room crappy cell phone clips of a yeti 50w. Cool amps.

I don't know. I don't run a boost. Listen to the vid I posted. That's a bang-on representation of what it sounds like in the room.

Nice! That's pretty much what my Yeti sounds like too. Chupa is more aggressive, with more of a growl/snarl in the upper mids. But it's a bit looser.

If given the chance to play one, I think i'd like the mids and presence alot! I like bright aggressive tones :D

I'll dig through this thread in depth later, but for now I'll ask you directly here:

How's the low end and more specifically the attack on the low end? Round and saggy with a more classic metal vibe, or fast and tight in a modern metal sense? Or can it achieve both depending on settings?

The Chupacabra is more round/saggy on the low-end attack. It's not going to be tight like a modern metal amp. It's no tighter than any other Marshall amp. These amps are basically JCM800s with Jose Masters and some bright switches. They aren't going to be any tighter or looser than a JCM800.
