Well worth the 6k if you ask me.
Hell, I'd take it in the ass if it meant me getting a cameron.
That’s the whole point. The only thing Cameron is the name on the amp. It’s preamp is “based” on but a scaled down version of Marks Jose mods and a Friedman powers section. This was not Marks circuit, nor did he build them.

Didn't you build a clone of one of Mark's amps? How does it sound? Have you gotten the chance to A/B in person against a Cameron?

fwiw, I have one of Mark's Jose mod Marshall SLP's (I've had a few), the Atomica, BE100, and a BE50 combo and I can get the Friedman tones on the Atomica, BUT I can't get the Atomica tone I like on the Friedmans nor on the Jose mod. It's in that regard that it really doesn't matter who the hell made this thing, it is AWESOMENESS.

My $.02
I agree! I have a Atomica modded SLP (modded by Dave Friedman) (I think it may also be a prototype thing but not 100% sure) and I like it better than my 78 super lead that has a Cameron Jose mod, but they're both keepers since they both can't match what I like in both of them. I've also owned a HBE/BE modded 78 super lead, butterslax, and Phil x, but I felt my cameron stuff smoked them
in the month since completing my Cameron clone I have played my BE Clone for less than 5 minutes

I understand... Cameron's amps circuit designs are so good, that even the clones sound good without all Cameron's bells and whistles. That's why I was curious if you've been able to A/B test your build w/ a Cameron.

unfortunately, a/b as in side by side same time, no. I have played a Brad era CCV and heard a Jose in person

I've tried Mark's CCV (When he had a booth at NAMM) and Brad's CCV. I want one. Don't care which, though have been having some fun w/ a Kemper too. NO GAS, just the enthusiasm for great sounding gear to have in my musical tool box, for when I want/need that specific tool.

since my CCV clone and single channel CCV clone sound practically identical even with different transformers, I think I am going to convert it to Atomica specs to get a more vintage VH vibe. The CCV is much more aggressive

Chippy is completing the man cave

That dude has a ton of amps.

He has lots of cool stuff. I actually know people who have a lot more than what he has. They are just quiet about their gear.

Chippy reminds me of an old friend who went skiing once. He couldn't ski for shit, fell down the hill every single time, nearly killed himself. But the next week he HAD to go out and buy the most expensive skii's, boots, poles, everything. We went skiing again and same shit happened where 7 year olds with Hello Kitty skii's bought at Target were passing him by.
Money can’t buy talent.....I’m a perfect example
You aren't the only one ! HaHa !

I agree the CCV is more modern sounding. I've always been of the 'in addition to' mentality as opposed to the 'instead of' approach, but I salute your endeavor. Rock on!

Haha.
Carl..good question. I haven't seen him being vocal as of late. Maybe we'll get a nice Christmas gift and he'll log on for a tirade of some sort.

He's a funny fellow. I type in the word Carl and he responds back to me "Asshole."

You can get a more vintage sound by using channel 1 of the CCV then using a pedal to goose up the gain. The tone is less compressed. I use a klon clone with channel 1 so it doesn’t get super compressed like tube screamer pedals do. My CCV also has a 3 way gain style on channel 2 that you can tinker with to get more vintage tones similar to channel 1.

I am really digging the middle setting on the gain voicing switch on channel 2. It's not the XTC blue channel, but its the second best for those types of tones. I'm building a Klon clone right now, so I will try that soon on channel 1. Thanks
