Clean ch on a high gain amp_Who requires one ???

Definitely need clean. I don't have much use for a true crunch. I prefer either broken up cleans or a lower gain lead for less aggressive stuff rather than a bright Marshally crunch.

I go down this road all the time, trying to find some "versatility" in amp channels...never happens, I gravitate to one high gain setting, and roll back the volume on my guitar as needed to cover the crunch/cleanish parts. If I really want sparkling cleans, I'll just A/B switch out to a little Fender amp I have that covers that nicely (but honestly, I'm too lazy to use that setup in most cases).

I like an amp with a good solid lead tone and a good clean. Easy to get the crunch tones just by rolling down the volume on the lead channel (or switching off my boost). Sure.....I could get a clean by rolling down my volume on a crunch channel, but it's usually not pristine enough for me.

I would prefer a dedicated clean but for me it is not necessary. Rolling the volume is something I have learned to do over the years if I want it clean. As long as I can get it semi clean without a huge volume loss and I guess I don't mind a little dark or dirty.

Would love a brutal high gainer with a crystal clean channel but not needed. For me I would not need more than one gain channel. I don't do different sounds for different parts just get the best sound I can and leave it.

I had a Peavey Triple XXX (6L6 version) that could do this. Pristine cleans on channel 1, and channel 2 & 3 were just brutal (no OD pedal required either).

Never should have gotten rid of that amp.

Was this just a stock XXX? Any mods or tube changes?

Completely stock.

But much prefer the older models with the diamond plate faceplate (girl logo). Had one of the newer EL34 loaded units, and didn't care much for it.

I require clean
Ideally, I like crystal clean, gritty clean, 70s crunch, hi gain brootz, and hi gain syrup for leads to deliver the song ideas in my head.
But since I have that covered with a Kemper & DMoll, so I guess my next amps don't need clean if I am just jamming it at home.

Something that I've learned over the years is that few amps give you the best of both clean and high gain(JP-2C does it, and a few others)....but it's always a compromise. I can see the need for both if folks want one amp to do it all and don't want to carry more gear.

If I had one amp only, YES I would have to have a good clean channel on it and a super high gain channel(these days, lots of 3 channel amps that do it). Clean sounds(no dirt) are very much a part of my style(from the icy crystal thrash type cleans like old Metallica and Testament-think hypnosis/musical death, to Holdsworth, Gilmour, to the massive classic rack cleans, Steve Stevens and Petrucci).

But in the end, it's 90-95% of the time a compromise if you want to get the best of both. I have the 2014 BE100 clean, I haven't upgraded to the new clean(is it buxom betty cleans?)....I'm finding that where I set the presence of the gain channels always gives me less sparkle than I'd like on the clean channel...so unless I'm willing to send the amp off...a second amp(or possibly a preamp) will be the way to go.

It definitely used to be a comprimise, the new Friedmans have the best of both worlds with zero comprimise.

The new Synergy SYN-1 with a black face Fender module *should* turn any single channel amp with a series effects loop into a useable 2 channel workhorse... I really want to try it.

Interesting, I'm definitely intrigued by the new clean channel...I should just sent my amp off to Dave for updates anyway but man, couriers scare me. I don't have my amp shipping box that my BE100 came in anymore as I used it to ship another amp.

+1 Except the Peters Halo clean does it for me. I set it up for a very light edge of breakup and roll my guitar's volume knob down to around 3 for crystal cleans, and use a combination of riding the volume knob and kicking in boost pedals for various shades of grit and drive. It's also loads of fun messing around with modulation effects on a nice clean channel. Can't do without it.

Guess it depends on what your doing music/playing wise. I've always played in cover bands and need a clean channel for the ballad/clean to dirty type songs during any given set..

I need at least a dirty clean. A high wattage high gain amp within a crystal clear clean is useless to me.

I would prefer a clean channel but definitely not required. It’s the reason I feel the Bogner Shiva 20th is one of the most well rounded high gainers out there.

I don't care for a clean channel. Never use it. Would prefer a mid-gain channel and hi-gain channel.

Single channel for me.. turn down for clean tones. My clean isnt really that clean

I was going to get a KSR Ares but ended up getting an Orthos to have a clean channel. I'm really glad I did. Sometimes I do play stuff like the Cure, Interpol etc. I have my clean channel then one of my modes on the lead channel is set up as a crunch channel then mode two is a high gain mode. With my Ryra Klone and Airis Savage drive I have an amazing amount of options that I really wasnt expecting. My Klone has a little bit of gain on it so if I use my clean channel I can go from clean to a nice light crunch with one click. The crunch channel can go from crunch to high gain with just one click of my Savage Drive or Klone.

Unless wanting to use more than 1 amp or a modeler I like having a dedicated clean channel. And it definitely shows the quality of the amp, and how well its channels seperate. Something that has recently improved big time. A clean guitar is always louder than a dirty one and cuts in a mix much easier. Rolling volume is cool but if you need more clean volume your going to have to turn up the amp when rolling off a dirty channel.. depends on the band I guess. Playing at home yea what's the point unless you just like playing clean. I spend 99% on overdriven riffs. What's impressive is all the choices and availability to have cleans crunch and dirty with one amp that sounds as good as what's out there currently
