There's some truth to that. In my case I can say I gassed for a 4 hole Hiwatt Custom 100, and Mesa/Mesa Boogie since I was a broke ass teen. I've gassed for a Matamp since the first time I listened to High on Fire.

Tbt the Reeves and Matamp were not really that expensive considering they are handbuilt, high quality, and meticulously constructed amps. Both under $2500 brand new at the time.

Back in the mid 90's as a teen, an old 4 holer Hi-Watt was absolutely a "budget option".

That was my first punk bands first tube amp, upgrading from the Peavey Bandit.
$500 Canadian for the head, $250 for an mid 80's Jcm 800 cab....and lots of fun was had!

I don't think I've paid $4K+ for any amp ever. Diezels, Bogners, Fortins, Omega, KSR, Hiwatt, etc.

...i think i payed 4300 for a Slo. That was the most expensive amp. I strongly disliked it and sold it back to the same guy for the same price
