With a few exceptions, most of the amps I've owned (over 40) did at least something pretty well. I just like the different flavors and the way different amps (and kemper profiles!) react.

I pretty much sound the same through anything I play anyway, so I chase tone to a point but beyond some quality gear I sound the same. Good tube amp, good Guitar and a good boost and delay and its all the same.![]()
I seriously can not belive the tone is in the fingers hype.

I've come to accept that the tones I like to hear don't come from the most expensive amps/guitars in the world; I'm just as happy playing through a $600 6505+ and an LTD ec1000 as I am anything else I've tried. I only play for me and use a shitload of gain cause I dig massive saturation. I sold a Bogner Red pedal 12 minutes after I opened the box as it just didn't speak to me or excite my playing. Don't care, it's much cheaper this way!
I had a Bogner Red for a couple of weeks as well. Sounded great into my clean Straub amp. Like... an XTC!!! LOL! I used to have an XTC Classic and there's a 101b sitting in the man cave right now. A Bogner is a Bogner. Either you dig what they do, or you don't. I do dig their compressed saturation for some lead work. But MUCH prefer the hard-hitting, open roar of a classic boosted Marshall type circuit for rhythm work.
can you tell me more about your Straub? that dude helped me out way back , on the hoffman forum I beleive, when I just started building. really cool dude.

Yea ok if you straight up cant play you might not get a good tone because your notes are not clean.
But when I plug into a Peavey it sounds like a Peavey, when I plug into my VHT, it sounds like a VHT and not a Peavey.
Edit: When I tried a Rockerverb it sounded exactly like a Rockerverb. And that Herbert did not sound like any of them.
Sorry to derail, Mod on Bogner dude!!!![]()

Player A plugs into a guitar rig in the room and dials in his tane (still fully clothed, btw)
Player A then hands his guitar to Player B (Player B at this point could be partially naked, but this is not relevant)
Player B then plays through the same guitar rig, with the same guitar. The tone sounds completely different.
Why?
Playing technique.
(At this point, both Player A and Player B have disrobed. However, this does not change the point being made)

I like your equation, I find that injecting full on male nudity into a lesson always helps me concentrate and absorb the information better.
With that said, I still don't believe that every player sounds different through the same rig.. They can, but I think that if you take 2 average players of the same skill level and have them play the exact same thing one after the other, you'd have a hard time telling the difference.

And price sometimes matters. And yep, Jerry Dyer has some great sounding amps at low prices. I would have none now except for buying to get a metal rig going, Snakebyte and Rhodes Gemini.
That said, my old DSL100 and a few dirt pedal flavors does well.
Gear chasing is a fun hobby. Shooting is the same way. No matter what .45 ACP, ya gotta hold it steady and get it down range. Bikes and cars are way more cash.
For whatever reason, nothing exciting about Egnater to me. Not hating, just not voiced for what I like.
