Ordered the 5150 III and 1x12 cab....hope it's not too loud for my neighbors. :scared: :D

That long haired kid with the bright yellow guitar and Eddie Van Halen shoes you might find on your doorstep is me...

No reason though

50 watt? Love mine. Kicked my Deliverance out the door. Couldn't believe it. Friends, Drummer, wife, all liked it much better. It was my main amp for 7 or 8 years.

Yeah, just did the 50 watt. No reason whatsoever for the 100.

Chad you're more than welcome to come and play it.

Yep the 50 watter kicked my Bogner out the door and I couldn't believe it either. Wow you played the Deliverance for a long time and that amp is in my top five favorites so I see why. I really think Howard Kaplan and Ed designed a very nice amp!

10 band in the loop and an OD for the Blue channel?

I personally found no need for a 10 band but that could help you zero in if you wish. For me....I like the voicing as is. I use a Koko to boost the green and blue channels and set the red for a more bass heavy rhythm / lead. Man I love that pedal!

BTW if you put a 1/4 to 1/8 headphone adapter in the headphone jack on the back of the 5153 and connect the "pre amp" out on the back of the 5153 into your sound card and use the Two Notes cab simulator on your computer with headphones or studio you have a great silent / very low volume / direct solution.

That said the volume controls on the 5153 are great and IMHO sound good at low settings.

Tone wise......any or much difference between the 100 watt and 50 watt?
They voiced the same?
Everyone seems to love the 50 watter a little better? :dunno:

I've got the 5153 combo, 50 watt head with 2x12 cabinet, and the 100 watt head with a 4x12 cabinet. All three a voiced differently....slightly. Of the three, my favorite is the 100 watt head thru the 4x12, such a big, full, rich, warm tone that comes out of that thing....But its probably the 4x12 though. The combo and 50 are no slouches either, just differently voiced....I can't really explain it.

Hahaha, Just recently you were considering a 5 watt amp for several practical reasons and now it's a 5150 III. Just last week I spent a good amount of time playing the 50 watter with the matching 2x12 at GC with my guitar. Such a bad ass amp. RIDICULOUS amounts of gain/saturation. Sounded good at low and high-ish volumes. Very fun amp to play. The resonance knob on the back is very effective. Great cleans too. Blue channel was king for me and that's with the gain at noon. I play heavy stuff and I personally would have no reason to bring the gain past noon on either channel.

Congrats! I love those amps! The 100 watt is in constant GAS rotation. Played one LOUD the same day I tested a JVM and a Twin Jet. The evh smoked the JVM (IMO, different strokes, blah blah   ) and was a lot more "glued together" and less grainy. Mean sounding amp!

I thought it had some of the sonic mojo of a Bogner ecstasy and the Twin Jet combined, just not as creamy and juicy - more crisp and bright. Approaches modded Marshall territory but has its own voicing.

I know man   I couldn't get past the thing about buying an amp without playing it...there are none here to try. Same thing happened to me...I played it for awhile at a good volume a couple weeks ago and couldn't get it out of my head, and it IS a very fun and bouncy amp to play. I'm a sucker for saturated gain and that thing is the closest I've heard to the modded Mesa I had. It's calling to me.

Concur against the JVM; I really wanted to love that amp but it just felt really loose to me, and I didn't like it just for that. I thought this one was less grainy than the original 5150, but it's still got that sag and those dark mids that I dig so much; I LOVE the thump and punch it has for tight palm muted chug stuff, especially at low volumes. I'm gonna boost the Blue channel to see if the brightness goes away, but if it doesn't I'll be fine. Red channel is gonna stay right where it is. It's perfect.

Congrats man! Post clips soon.

Shit dude, I'm a hack of the highest order and you don't wanna hear me. Thanks though!

Welcome to the club sir  If you play 7 string guitars you are going to love this amp!!!!

I know this amp is known for saturation and gain but for someone like me that isn't into that it's still a great sounding head. I keep the gain around on the blue at 8.5 to 9.5 depending on mood. Down around 8.5 and volume up on the blue is a very convincing classic tone. Even more so if you crack the clean channel. Does it sound and feel like a plexi? Not exactly but it's a good approximation IMHO. On the red channel I don't even get it past 8.5.

It definitely has penny on tap.... thats for sure.

Dude, I don't as of yet but that's what I demo'd it with....the low end in drop A is like a gut punch! Next purchase will be a 7...there's a Keith Merrow sig coming out first quarter of next year that I can't wait to get my hands on. Nazgul/Sentient combo, Hipshot bridge, ebony board, the works...the wait for that one is killing me. What are you using, and got any clips?

You're talking 8:30 on a clock, and not 8.5 out of ten, yeah? I'm glad to hear it's versatile...most of the time I'm banging Pantera type stuff but I have a great LP with a beautiful neck pickup for clean lead/delay lines for when I'm feeling sensitive...would have had to figure that EVH wanted something that sounded great for classic rock type stuff and leads. I'm hyped....still a shocker to hear about all the really good amps that got dumped here for this one.

Yeah half way between 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock to half way between 9 o'clock and 10 o'clock. I plan on dropping some low 12ATY7's in there to try to tame the gain a bit and give a more usable sweep for me. That said I haven't been in a rush since it sounds good like it is.

Haven't had to roll a lot of glass thru it? You still got the stock tubes in there?
