David Lee Roth is Retiring After His Last 5 Upcoming Shows in Las Vegas

My wife and I will be at at least one of the Vegas House of Blues shows. DLR is one of my all time FAVS and I was just cranking his Greatest Hits CD on the way home from work today. Was not more than an hour later my wife told me she just read he announced his retirement. I was already thinking about going to see him in Vegas at the end of the year. Now there is no doubt. My first concert was Van Halen in 1978. Dave has not been looking too good lately and what I read below sounds a bit cryptic.

David Lee Roth:
“I am encouraged and compelled to really come to grips with how short time is, and my time is probably even shorter,” Roth said.

Roth also reflected on the loss of Eddie Van Halen, who died of cancer last October 6th. “I thought I might have been the first, frankly,” said Roth, who added that he’s been in frequent contact with Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen. “I might have thought the Marlboro Man would’ve got me. Hey Ed, objects in the rear-view mirror are probably me. And my doctors, my handlers, compelled me to really address that every time I go on stage, I endanger that future.”

Roth is playing five shows at the House of Blues, starting New Year’s Eve; he told the Las Vegas Review that he was planning 75 rehearsals for those shows with his backup band. “These are my last five shows,” he emphasized.

Roth concluded his phone call by saying, “I’ve given you all I’ve got to give. It’s been an amazing, great run, no regrets, nothing to say about anybody. I’ll miss you all. Stay frosty.”

Hum, sounds a little bit like a real good by. Very nostalgic. Makes you wonder for sure. I hate the thought. VH the group just gives me such happy vibes…those first warm days, open the sun roof, blasting Panama heading to the tennis courts….I am transformed back to age 16…free, girls, long hair………

Dayum.

At least he knows when to quit, unlike the majority of others it seems...
From what Dave said and the sound of his voice, I do not think Dave is too long for the world. Objecsts in the mirror may be closer than they appear as he was saying about Eddie looking at him now. Dave has been looking extremely thin recently and I think a VERY private man was leaking to us all that he does not think he has a great amount of time left in this world. I would not doubt if Alex, Mike, Steve and others drop in for some of the last few shows. Thankfully it is an easy drive for me from SoCal and my Dad lives right outside Vegas.

I think he's so bright and fast that 90% of the time he's just in his own world and what he is saying goes over everyone's head including his own.
cool
dumb it down with spammy at the cantina if you can't hang.

people bash dave but he's lived 10 lifetimes and is a true renaissance man.

I hope he isn't sick and that we at least get a few more albums from the maniac.

Will Al Estrada be playing the shows? :worship:
Sounds like Dave and Alex have been talking a lot recently. For all I know Alex and Mike may be in the band. They may all just want to go out with a LOUD and unexpected bang. John 5 could be on guitar with a Steve Vai appearance as well. Of course, this all my wildest dreams stuff.....but it is Vegas and I would not bet against it. And none of them need the money. It would all be about celebrating the good times.
