Have you ever wondered how and why dogshit like Anus Poutine becomes inescapable overnight?

This is how and why

Short answer, they paid digital marketing and clippers to manipulate the algorithm - everything on the internet is fake.

You might think "guitar community" is immune from this.... it is not. Hence, Anus Poutine, Fluff, Glenn Fricker.

No doubt everyone digs this guy's look, but this video is pretty thorough on how the entire billboard chart is rigged against independents.

Yeah the point is almost nothing is real on the Internet anymore, it's all astroturfed bot farming to force you to be aware of the people who use payola

Like I said before, when you have most shopping online, food delivery, robot vacuums, robot cars, etc, this is what you get. If something takes effort, you can be rest assured someone will take a lazy way around it these days.

I'm so glad I was born in the 70s. I actually got to experience playing outside, discipline, etc.

We will never say stop or hold on with tech. We will just adapt to the new loss of humanity and the loss of what really enrichs the human experience. It’s why I know we’ll never take meaningful steps about the environment and certainly won’t pause and reconsider on what we want to do with A.I.
Humans got fat and comfortable and most of us aren’t willing to make any kind of sacrifice to our comfort and convenience to help the whole. Which includes standing up to governments. We don’t care about the next generation. We actually just foist the problem on to them, giving in, because it was “too hard” and they’ll fix it anyway. Then they do the same.

The last band I was in that had a label involved, the label would do sneaky shit to get our name out.

Being involved in random ad buy ins, to get shows talked about on the local radio station. Same kinda thing to get on Sirius or XM platforms; it was basically pay to play with some smoke & mirrors.

I guess you could argue, that’s what their job was, but being even a tiny part of it felt sketchy.

When wasn't there payola though?

It's existed for as long as music existed, but that's not the point at all

The point is that there's a reason the mainstream is so ass, in every avenue of music - because the only shit that anyone hears about is stuff that you hear about because of payola. That's what the industry has devolved to.

Payola was a small piece of the industry in the past; now it IS the actual industry.

@VonBonfire and @Greazygeo you guys are missing the point of this video so hard

Payola has always been there, quietly, in the background

But the entire music industry is basically only made up of nepo babies now, partly because the literal only way an artist can break through is through payola.

Freddie King, EVH, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, all the boomer guitar heroes you guys worship didn't get to the top through payola. Because it was still possible to break though (in EVERY genre) through sheer talent up until the internet age.

You guys seem to be missing the distinction between payola existing and payola literally being the basis for the entertainment industry

It's a huge discrepancy, and makes the "nothing new under the sun" fallacy sound absolutely absurd

Commercial music is manufactured for 6th-8th grade kids now, mostly girls. The music industry did the research and found the main cash cow.
