Dear 1980’s Crate….

i joined a Crate group on social media, i had no idea how many people were so dedicated to Crate, its pretty funny
That reminds me of the Carvin forum. Dudes talking about that old Carvin head like it was awesome. The mts I think 🤔 after the x100’s but before the legacy…. It was sad yet hilarious at the same time lol

The Vintage Club series from the 90’s was pretty good sounding (can’t speak to construction). Also the Blue Voodoo clean channel acted just a 1959 Marshall when you cranked it up. Didn’t sound too bad at all.

Those MTS's were awful. I did have an X100 combo that wasn't too shabby. Bought it in mint condition for like $300.

Isnt the blue voodoo designer the magnatone guy now? they must be laughing their asses off at the prices they can get now under the magnatone name
I have said that numerous times. 6k crates!!! Yeah bwah!!! Get ya some!!!

The bulk of Crate is pretty much garbage, especially the SS stuff from the early 2000's. Can of angry hornets. Credit where credit is due though. They did have some hidden gems. The Blue Voodoo 300 & 150, Lee Jackson designed Stealth, GX130C and Shockwave/Tidalwave. Worst case you may have needed to touch up some cold solder joints, but the circuit design and tone was solid. Even though the speakers may have been shitty, they had some well built cabs through the years too.

Dude, remember the V3 & V3M? I was close to buying one until I played it and realized it was 4 channels of pure fizz.

80’s Crate G40C…40 watts stereo chorus, reverb. 8” speakers I think. Had that in college. GXT combo with the tube preamp dethroned the Marshall 2204 1-12 combo. Both were cool.

That's hilarious, the amp I got after the Crate was a Carvin x100 head with the disgusting fuzzy covering. I hated that thing, and I think that's why I don't like Zappa b/c he reminds me of it

Yeah. Obed Kahn is a legend in the St Louis area. He’s done all kinds of stuff!

Also a killer player!

CharvelDan has a hard on for him, but I kinda get it. Lol

Dan likes to pretend he knows everyone from St. Louis that is remotely well known. The mother fucker can't afford KFC, but we're supposed to believe he can afford a Khan amp ? Or even afford to have him work on one of his amps ?

A few friends of mine used to work at SLM back in the day. I usually have my SVT serviced by the guy who most likely built it. I won't name drop, but I know the dude and have been in bands with some of the dudes he plays with. In fact I sold him an SVT rig and an enclosed trailer a few years back. He designed some of the Crate amps too, though I don't know which one(s). I can tell you that if you take an amp to him for service, A, it ain't cheap and B, he's gonna have it awhile. lol

I can't imagine what having Khan work on an amp would cost. Or if he would even do it at this point.

These were the two I had before I “upgraded” to a Fender Power Chorus 2x12. lol

My first, what I thought was a real amp, was the 2x12 combo. I’m pretty sure mine was the chorus version, GCX-212 I think. I have good memories of it, many hours sitting in my bedroom jamming on it. I took it with me in the Navy. When I was in A school and C school I had it in my locker, took up almost the whole damn locker. Finally sold it at a pawn shop after I got out.
