So, aside from the solos and the fact that Hetfield's voice has gone, I'm actually pleasantly surprised. There are quite a number of cool riffs in there, and it does have some of that old Metallica flavour in there. It's not astonishingly wonderful, however, after St Anger, it really is a huge step up. 6/10 is about fair I would say, based on the whole package.
And I was one of the naysayers, saying it would suck.

I won't be downloading it, because it doesn't sit right with me. Don't care what others do (not my place to judge anyone else), but it feels like stealing to me,so I don't do it.

...that's quite a lot of teh CD...although a couple of those songs do have boring parts...this CD is going to be best listen to one or two songs at a time I think....the guitar tone/production (or summat) just wears my ears down after too much and the songs don't change it up enough to stop it.
The instrumental ain't terrible..Suicide and Redemption that is....still no real thoughts/affinity with End of the Line, That Was Just Your Life and Cyanide is a bit meh.

Ok i'll bite as I have listed to it twice now and I still plan on buying the CD come Sept. 12th.....
Downloaded mp3 version sounds way better than stuff off of youtube and metallica's website, cant wait until I get the real deal on CD.
The day that never ends is either crap or meh, havent decided yet, leaning towards sucks actually yes it does suck.

Who ever decided to release these songs first outta be shot
The first time I lisetened to my appoclopse I shit myself thinking this stuff equalled Master of puppets. As it turned out I actually ejaculated prematurally instead of shitting myself ( similar sensation actually). This album kicks ass but does not equal or exceed their OLDE stuff. But it still kicks all kinds of ass and defiantly sounds like metallica of OLDE with a modern metal twist, way better than 99% of so called metal that has come out in the last how many years.
The rest of the album pretty much kicks all kinds of ass.
At first I said to myself the guitar tone is not my fave, but it grows on you. Its SUPER tight and clear as a bell, on occasion it has a master sound to it namely on sliding chord riffs. At times the tone reminds me off my old powerball with more mids. The tone is actually really refreshing and new sounding for metal. For some reason the best way to sum up the guitar tone for me is puppets X LOG ashes of the wake, actually at one point on "my appocolapse" it seems like there is a ripp off of a LOG riff in there. I'll have to fuck with my mark III to see if I can cop a good Death Magnetic tone when some good tab comes out because there are defiantly a bunch of catchy riffs than have my name on them, I just hope my mark III can get this tight, because their tone is crazy tight and in your face.

"the end of the line" riffage reminds me of battery or puppets!
Although James voice is the lowest point of the album, I dont like this new high pitched shit he is doing on some parts. On some parts he does his gritty thing pretty well, but the metallica of old has his gritty voice 100% of the time and thats what they need to be doing! Untill they do that they will never equal RTL through Black album. With that being said the album still kicks ass! In my humble opinion if you would have taken James voice of OLDE and stuck it on this album this would have been instant EPIC album equal to their older shit.

Like it or hate the album their is one thing no one can deny is that the album is pure 100% thrash metal
