Derek St. Holmes

Here lies floyd broken hearted, came to shit and only farted.
Genius. Irrelevant and very grade school. Sadly typical. The irony of calling Nugent a hack when your own abilities are also very grade school are totally lost on you.

NOBODY SPEAKS FOR TED BUT HIMSELF. HUMAN DISGRACE.

Don’t look now Dan, but this is not OT. Here we are supposed to be talking about music. Or gear. I believe the issue at hand is you were about to post a video which exemplifies Nugent being a hack and you being better than him.
He's seems like he's been in an extra sour mood. He was crapping on Clapton in another thread. I guess I'll hold off on talking about Carlos Santana for a while, lol. Dan's attitude kinda reminds me of Jenny's boyfriend in Forrest Gump lately.

It’s funny. A lot of people don’t seem to be able to separate art from the artist. I like about 4 Neil Young songs. They’re great songs. I’d like to punch Neil in the eye, but I’m not going around calling him a hack.

I like about 4 Neil Young tunes as well. I don't want to punch him but I'd definitely spit some beech nut in that dudes eye. I'm more of a Buffalo Springfield man myself.

There’s another example. Stephen Stills is a commie fuck, but the dude wrote some great songs. David Crosby is a total piece of shit. ( or was, I think he’s probably dead now) but he wrote some great songs.

Seems like the most ardent commies are the ones who get to grow up highly privileged in a capitalist system but tbh this thread is about Derek Holmes. I was going to mention the additional respect I have for him always keeping his own politics out of it, it's a great policy to have, but I didn't even want to get into that aspect since certain people get triggered by the Nuge. Unfortunately Captain Handtruck had to show up and ruin it.

Anyways, Derek Holmes rules. Great vocal, guitar chops, stage presence, and guitar tone. And he sings real good too if I didn't mention that, lol. Was watching some rig rundown of his gear and he sounds like he is mainly a Les Paul guy which I can dig but it looks like he enjoys SG's and 335's too. Legends I can see in the club....those are my favorite kinds of shows to catch. Maybe one of these days.

Growing up I never we had a clue Nugent wasn’t the singer.

I respect Holmes more since he has solid chops plus a killer vocal minus the spastic stage act Ted had. I won't listen to music if the guitarist is smoking but the vocal totally sucks. That's why I can't stand VH tbh but I suppose David Lee Roth couldn't have been a cantor.

No amps, no drums, no bass, no keys, no animal parts just 100% talent. No braggerts needed.

He's a really good guitarist with nice tone and taste in gear but his stage antics was too over the top for me to get into. I'm into music, not having a raccoon tail hanging out the back of my shorts and shooting bow and arrows from stage right, lol.
I actually like Ted being Ted. I saw him at the house of blues in Chicago 20 years ago and he rode a buffalo out on the stage dressed as an Indian chief :rawk:

I have no beef with Ted and will readily admit he's quite the entertainer on many levels and he also has great taste in gear and as a result great tone (and chops). A Gibson Byrdland plus six twin reverbs stacked in a pyramid is pretty badass, LOL. I just like the all business approach of St. Holmes better.

This is not one of the 4 Neil songs I think are great. This one ain't horrible, but....

There's a video of him when he's really young, just him and an acoustic guitar doing "Old Man", which I think is brilliant. After The Goldrush is also a fantastic song. Needle and the Damage Done is great too and one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar when I was around 12, along with Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress by the Hollies.

BUT, This is a Derek St. Homes thread. If you made a Neil Young thread I would likely post in it without bringing up what a dumbfuck he is. Post a few videos. Talk about his response to Sweet Home Alabama, which I thought was great and humble.

Derek was awesome but after Nugee Nellie didn't really do much except collect royalties.
