I have one on my bench (a 50s "+") right now, its pretty cool sounding. The clean is very nice and the second channel very mean, thats the right word for it . . .

This one hummed a lot, some resistors were freaky soldered (standing "up") to the board (stock) and needed resoldering and replacement - and the miniature reverb tank sucks (I know that you guys won't use it all :D ).

Nice little amp nonetheless.

My only gripe with it is the shared preamp-gain knob really.
Since you can assign the GEQ to only the overdrive channel, you can sculpt two usable eq'd sounds, but getting the angriest overdrive, and a "clean" clean at the same time is difficult.

I saw this mod, so it looks like there's a "cure" for that, though :)

Is that mod on a 22 or 50?
I have an old metal switch Studio 22

And do you know what value pot is used?
It should be just another 1M log (audio) pot. Overall both will have 500k then, which brightens the sound a tiny bit though. But since the amp itself isn't already overly bright . . .

What type of volume pot and value would you use to replace the volume pot? My brothers is sounding REAL noisy. He ask me to ask someone on the board he doesn't do internet imagine that. :) It would be much appreciated.

Also a 1M log audio - with a switch of course (push pull). My guess is that you need to search a bit - or ask Mesa directly for a replacement.

Did you try contact cleaner yet- the pot on the Cal 50+ I have on my bench was noisy too - some cleaner cured that.

I think he might have tried the cleaner but I am not sure. He mentioned it many times. I will pass it on to him thanks a bunch. I heard of a mod where the volume taper is more gradual so it sounds more consistent as you turn it up. I don't know anything about amp repair I would like to learn one day just for my convenience.

I've been thinking about trading my Single Rec for one of these, but now I'm afraid I won't be able to get a nice clean tone and the high gain sounds I need. I need to be able to quickly switch from a pristine clean sound to teh brootlz on the fly.

You'll be able to get these tones easily. That's exactly how I have mine set up.
Very cool. Wanna trade? :D

I'm tempted, but I'm getting exactly the tone I'm looking for out of this amp. I don't want to mess this up.
