Diezel VH4 clips with BBE and without BBE....

Don't take this the wrong way but WTF,why would you use that on one of the best amps built
today? I always thought BBE's were used to enhance low end on cheap amps,i wouldn't dare use
anything with my VH4,nothing,nada,not even verb or delay.Guitar, cable head and cab.
Unless your ears are low end fried? That's not a joke either.

With an amp like this, I have to agree with everyone...adding a BBE to the equation is akin to adding Coke to a fine bourbon like Woodford, Basil Hayden's, Booker's...hell, even adding Coke to Jack Daniel's is blasphemy IMO :gethim:

So I guess if you're a Jack and Coke guy, then go ahead with the BBE

I guess I been using it so long that I think it "needs" to be in the mix somehow.
Going to yank it out and re-dial. I know with a kick ass amp like this should be stand alone.
Guess I am a creature of habit....

mmmmmm Basil Hayden's...

mmmmmmmm.......vodka and Orange Juice....... :D

ummm.....sorry. Got side tracked here. ;)

I am going to Hi-jack my own thread.......

Now....when we play I am usually pretty lit up.
That might have something to do with how I hear it?

I did have a ruptured ear drum on my right ear and had it operated on(seriously)
And my hearing is kinda messed up on that side.
I can hear but have a 25 percent loss to the right ear and certain frequencies are missing for me on that side.
Happened about 7 years back when I was in the Military. Never been the same.
It sucks...

You get a disability out of that?

Yeah I got 10 Percent from the VA. I have tinitus in that ear. Sucks bad....but thats life.

I vote without it..
But I would re-tweak the EQ, Presence and whatever else that amp has for that type of sound..

Ok Danno, you know what I think.  honestly, I think you have gotten used to having that thing in the signal chain, and your ears are accustomed to having a certain level of highs there and while I would agree with you that it has more definition with it, I think the amp loses some mojo. Try getting used to not having it there for a bit, and I'll bet you like the overall tone better in the end. I am talking about band level stuff, not bedroom volume. I did not mean to start a landslide in your first thread, sorry bro ;)

Nah its cool!
your right about ears getting used to it.
I never used it in the RIvera KR7 and it was smoking hot as well!
Just need to tweak this bad boy a little more.
There is a Presence and Depth for each channel so I need to find the perfect balance.
Hey....I am still a NOOB at the VH4S.... ;)
But I know this thing is a MONSTER and can do some SERIOUS DAMAGE.
I just need to get it all together and unplug that processor and tweak with the presence a little more.

I think it might sound a little different in these clips too. I remember the day I was there you turned it off and turned it back on and it seemed a lot more crisp and defined with it on, and punchier and louder. Some amps it works with and some it doesn't, I don't see how the cost of the amp defines whether or not you should use a sonic maximizer :dunno: Both clips sounded good to me

yeah i agree - using a BBE would be like preferences in mics - subtle changes or huge changes it just depends on the settings and the amplifier :)

Yeah Motorpud played thru the amp as well and thought it sounded great.
Maybe we are both tone deaf?
The amp to me.....still dont sound IN PERSON as it does in the recorded clips.
But it was the best I had to go by.

That amp is too good for you....the BBE makes little difference with that level of playing and shouldnt even be debated.

buy fewer amps, practice more and drink less

I'm sorry but I've had a few beers and I'm being brutally honest :(

Yeah I still need to play around with it more. Learn to dial it in for what I am looking for.
Thing is a tone machine and I dont get to play too much during the week. So when the wekend comes around I plug in and start jamming with the band. I need some good alone time with it. But when I dial in at lower levels...it changes when I crank it up.
Plus I have the 2 cabs to dial in.
Yeah......I know....Poor me!
will give it some more time and tweaking.
Either way.......I love this damn amp!
This PDF may be a good starting point. It helped me when I was trying to find my way around the amp.
