Do you have an amp that ended your quest for tone?

'67 Marshall clone I built about a year ago. It won't do metal, but everything up to that point? Perfection. Cleans are amazing, blues is phenomenal, rock tones are thick as hell, and although I slightly prefer my '68 clone for heavier stuff, it sounds awesome with a boost pedal too.

Definitely helps that I've figured recording out though. Using the right cab makes a big difference when it comes to miking it, and I've found slant cabs - perhaps due to internal phasing - just sound better for tracking.

Interesting how quickly my posting dropped off after I built those two amps.

I don't know if it will ever be over for me....and I won't bore you with how many amps I've gone thru......but.....I have an older Wizard MC50 that I stumbled across about 2years ago. I've tried other MC's but this one is special. It's got "It". No matter what guitar or cab ii pair it with it comes thru. Now having said that.....

I just bought a Surreal AKA 100 from Jerry Dyer right here on rig talk. And I can't stop playing this amp. The tone is woody, atticulate, the sustain is there in spades and it cleans up very well with the guitar volume. I've only had it a week but it sure doesn't feel like the typical honeymoon phase. It's obviously a bit different from my Wiz but in a great way. One big difference is I could almost buy three Surreal's for the price of one Wizard. And Jerry will build to taste. I may have a new favorite.....

My Splawn Quick Rod has literally made any other amp purchase seem wasteful. I still get GAS. I mean ... I'm a guitar player right??? With that said, every time I got to rehearsal and crank it up, damn if I don't giggle like a little school girl looking at a justin bieber photo.

My Framus Dragon has ended my gas. Very nice cleans, to over the top gain, it does everything I need.

Wait... Only school girls can do that?... :scared:

Bogner XTC 20th....I have other really nice amps for other tones but I always gravitate back cuz I can play any style on it and it covers almost all of them well.

One amp? This is some sort of sin to even ask the question!

Off with his head!

:gethim:

One amp...

I have taken years of careful planning, explaining, and assuring my wife that I NEED at least 5 amps and a dozen guitars to cover the "tone bases". It's like shoes to her. She needs the 40 or more pairs.

It is an understanding.

One amp....

Indeed....

I have a 50 watt Jubilee that has chased Camerons, Friedman, Gower and Fortin away...until now. I just grabbed one of Jason Bieler's Rivera TBR 1SLs and this may chase the Jubilee away. Got in touch with Jason as my drummer has a TBR 1M and I asked him how he set his up for the Saigon Kick tones..some of my favorites. He got back to me right away and was very cool but pointed out that he had the SL, not the M. I asked him if he ever would consider selling one of his...and he did! It's definitely got a Marshall-modern vibe to it, with a great clean and built like a tank. Really cool under the radar amp..gonna try to put some clips up when I can...

Mesa Boogie Mark III
Crazy versatile , it nails the clean and distorted tones in my head.

To call it one amp is a little off but my Mesa Roadster has more useful tones and options than any other amp I've ever owned.
It may not be the last one I buy but thus far into my journey it's been the best.

Same experience here. The Roadster is A Dual Rec with a useable clean (2 of 'em actually).
Terrific amp.

Yep. Several times.

First major find was the ultra lead (thanks, juggy).

But the dar fbm was made and voiced for me (thanks, mike). Stopped buying amps altogether now. Even let my Herbert go. In fact, I would dump everything else...my amps, guitars, bike, car, liquor collection, most of my art collection (not the warhol) to keep my fbm and Gutierrez custom.

I reserve the right to change my mind once my Splawn Super Sport combo arrives.

That said, it's currently the combo platter: Mix of Splawn Quick Rod, Jet City JCA50H CUSTOM EL34, and the Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 36.
